Okrah came to us as a stray 3 weeks ago in horrible condition. She was very thin, her skin was riddled with infection and she was absolutely terrified. For several days she cowered in her kennel, scared of us and what we might do to her. After some decompression, she settled and eagerly came out of her kennel. From that day on she’s been a complete love and has enjoyed all the attention she can soak in. We don’t know her past but there are several things we suspect. There’s evidence that she was used for breeding and potentially coexisted with another female dog (Glo) as they were running loose together for a few days avoiding capture. We suspect from her physical appearance she wasn’t properly taken care of, even the basic needs of food and love. We suspect her owners discarded her when there was no need for her which is why she ended up at EASEL and wasn’t reclaimed. What we know NOW is that she is healing both physically and emotionally. She has gained weight, enjoys going for walks and getting all the scratches she can. We know she is very food motivated and will sit for treats. We know she’s been excellent meeting people and had her first dog test yesterday (which was quite uneventful). We estimate Okrah to be about 6 years old so her energy level isn’t super high. She is ready to put her past behind her and is looking to the future and endless possibilities. If Okrah sounds like the girl for you please apply to adopt her today! Adoption by appointment only with an approved adoption application. Please go to www.easelnj.org/adopt to submit an adoption application. Someone will be in touch within 48 hours.
