Atom came to us after being found as a stray and not being claimed by an owner. He is sweet and loves affection. When he meets new people, he often requests that they rub his belly. He loves other dogs and is currently being fostered in a home with other pups where he shows no possiveness over food or toys. He is very smart and goes to the spot where he is fed and waits their at mealtime. He loves car rides and hikes in the woods. We estimate he is around one year old. He knows "sit" and "down" and is working on other commands with his foster mom. He still needs to learn not to jump on people and is strong on the leash (although his foster mom is working on that, too), so he would benefit from obedience classes. He weighs 70 lbs. and is most likely full-grown. His foster thinks he would do best in a home with no cats. Since we know nothing about his background, we will not place him in a home with children under 10.
If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our dog adoption application here: http://medfieldshelter.com/adopt. Our adoption fee for dogs ages 7 months â 7 years is $500. Dogs 8 years and up are $250. Every dog we place is vaccinated, wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash.
With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families who are willing to make a commitment to both.
All adoption meetings are by appointment only as we only have two employees. Our manager or one of our volunteers will be happy to set up an appointment for you to come meet the pets, but please fill out the adoption application first.

More about this shelter
The Medfield Animal Shelter's mission is to rescue lost or abandoned animals and provide for their comfort and safety until they are reunited with their owners or placed in new homes. We are a no-kill shelter, which means no pet will ever be euthanized because it has run out of time to find a home. We are committed to ending the overpopulation of pets that results in an estimated 5 million companion pets being euthanized at shelters in the U.S. every year, therefore all cats, rabbits and dogs adopted from us are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. We also sponsor a low cost spay/neuter clinic for cats at our shelter once a month.
