My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update: Bailey has really come out of her shell. She has been allowed to have free reign of the shelter. We wanted her to get as much socialization as possible as well has learn to move freely on just 3 legs. She is doing great on both accounts. She loves to come up and ask volunteers for pets and rubs. She usually gets along with all the other cats out and about also. Every once in awhile she has to slap a little whipper snapper and put it back in it's place, but never to harm, just to show who is boss. She is truly ready to find her forever home.

Bailey was a stray cat that had been living around the parking lot of Bailey Mechanical in Calhoun. She was injured and was limping around with bone showing. We went and rescued the cat once we were made aware of the situation. She was taken immediately to the vet's office and she ended up having to have her left, front leg amputated. She stayed there until she healed and then returned to our office. We will get her all ready to find a very special home. Even though she has been through so much, she is very sweet. She must be indoors the rest of her life. The missing leg will not really cause her problems as long as she is in an indoor home.

As we've got to know Bailey, we've found she does possess a bit of Tortitude at times. When she was in a kennel, she would occasionally give her volunteer cleaner a bite or scratch if they moved too fast. But if she was being petted and talked to she was very sweet and allowed her cramped home to be cleaned. Let's remember, this girl was an outdoor cat, living in a parking lot and getting along just fine, until she wasn't!! She has been moved to the adoption room so she can learn to walk on three legs. She is doing well with all the cats in there and seems much more relaxed now that she has more freedom. If you have a special place in your home for this three-legged girl, come and meet her.. See how you gel, and perhaps you will be the one to provide her the perfect home. No more parking lot life, no more scrounging for food, no more wounds, and no more kittens. She does want a home!!!

We have adoptable cats and kittens at Petland in East Rome and Petsense in West Rome, GA or by appointment. We keep our shelter location private so that we do not have kitties dropped off with us.

More about this rescue

Floyd County has the 3rd largest intake of cats in the state, including all Atlanta-area shelters. Floyd Felines was created to stop the weekly euthanasia. We pull sick cats and young kittens out of Floyd County Animal Control, now known as Public Animal Welfare Services, and take them to our private shelter where they are able to get necessary attention. We also pull hundreds of healthy, adoptable cats and kittens to be transported to Northern rescue partners to have higher chances of adoption. This work opens kennels at animal control so that it is no longer required to euthanize for space.

We also have a working cat program, where we match up “feral” cats to approved, outdoor homes where they can control the mice and snake population. These cats are usually some of the first to be euthanized at shelters, so we are thrilled that we are able to provide hope for their futures.
