My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** ADOPTER'S HAVING DOG SOCIALIZATION EXPERIENCE & UNDERSTANDING IS PREFERRED**

** REQUIRE ANOTHER DOG IN THE HOME & FENCED YARD FOR SAFETY** QUIETER HOME & NO KIDS TO KEEP JANICE FROM DOOR DARTING **

Meet our Sweet Janice Joplin! She's a 2 yr old, 14 lb, Terrier Mix.

Janice was rescued on Jan 15 from a Hoarder/Breeder situation, with very little socialization and she's been with fosters since being rescued, learning how to be a dog using other dogs as mentors for her.

She REQUIRES another companion dog in the family and would LOVE for that dog to be a player!! She LOVES to play and run with other dogs!

She does not like you to touch or pet her yet and it will be her learning skill as she becomes part of your family. She's close to that stage but still does not understand human touch.

When you're in the room, she'll lay across from you in a dog bed on the sofa watching you and the other dogs. She seems to REALLY want to be normal but is still afraid when you reach down to touch her.

She's housebroken but occasionally, she will pee on a potty pad late in the night. Not sure if that's because she didn't take time to go before bed.  It's random.

She will not walk on leash and will scream because you touch her. However, the foster parents were able to put her in bathtub and give her a bath and dry her off. But she does not like being on your lap.

We think that if she found the perfect family who understand semi-feral dogs like her and will accommodate her needs and show her love forever, she may grow with you and let you pet her eventually.  These types of dogs seem to try really hard to be like the other dogs.

More about this rescue

Needy Paws Rescue, located in St. Louis, MO, is devoted to saving animals in need, whose lives are in danger at high kill animal shelters & animal controls, those who are strays, have been abandoned or whose family has faced an extreme emergency, regardless of their size or breed.

Our organization is made up of Volunteers who have been involved in various animal rescues in the St. Louis area and we plan to use our knowledge & experience to make a difference. We believe spaying & neutering is a very important step in keeping pets healthy & happy, plus it helps decrease overpopulation. All of our rescued animals will be spayed or neutered, they will be microchipped to ensure they are identifiable if lost or stolen and they will be current on all of their vaccinations before going to their Forever Homes.

We are foster-based and all pets stay in approved Foster Homes that have passed inspections, reference checks and are qualified to take care of our rescued animals while they wait for their Forever Family. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will be making home visits and conducting veterinarian checks & reference checks to ensure the pets will have a safe, loving, happy home. Forever Families will be taught how to care for their pet and learn how to get the most out of their relationship with their new family member. We also have an after-care specialist who will be in contact with the families after the adoption to see how well they're doing together
