My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐶Meet Ruby: A Loving Mama Ready for Her Forever Home🐶
Ruby is a sweet and resilient 1- to 2-year-old lab mix who has overcome a challenging start to life. Along with her sisters, Reba and Robin, Ruby was rescued from the streets of Arkansas, where she faced the hardships of hunger, pregnancy, and heartworm disease. Despite these struggles, Ruby’s gentle nature never faltered. After making her way to Illinois, she raised her puppies with love and care and has successfully undergone treatment for heartworm. Now, Ruby is ready to find her happily ever after with a family who will provide her with the love and security she deserves.
Ruby’s Wonderful Traits:
Crate Trained: Ruby is comfortable in her crate and settles in quietly.
Good with Dogs of All Ages and Sizes: Ruby enjoys the company of other dogs and fits in well with a canine family.
Tolerates Cats: While Ruby is tolerant of cats, if they run, she’s up for a good chase, so a home with dog-savvy cats would be best.
Loving with Humans of All Ages and Sizes: Ruby adores people and is affectionate with everyone she meets.
Affectionate and Loyal: She wants nothing more than a loving hand to pet her and a soft place to lay after a long day.
Playful and Energetic: Ruby loves to run, play with toys, and wrestle with other dogs. After playing hard, she’s just as happy to nap hard, too.
Ruby’s story is one of survival and strength. She came from a home that allowed her to wander and scrounge for food, leading to an "accidental" pregnancy and contracting heartworm disease. But Ruby’s journey has made her all the more appreciative of the comforts of a loving home. She’s now looking for a forever family that will cherish her as she deserves.
Ruby is a wonderful companion who would make a fantastic addition to any family. She’s ready to start a new chapter filled with love, play, and happiness. Could you be the one to give Ruby the forever home she’s been waiting for?

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
