My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐶Meet Marilyn: Your Sweet and Smooshie-Faced Leader!🐶
Hi, my name is Marilyn! I’m a 9- to 10-week-old mixed breed from Arkansas, possibly part Labrador and Beagle. I came to safety with my mom and four siblings when I was just 1 week old, and now I’m almost 8 weeks old and weighing in at nearly 12 pounds.
I look just like my mom, who resembles a white Lab, and I’ve even inherited her sad, doughy eyes that can melt anyone’s heart. My foster mom calls me “smooshie face” because of the adorable wrinkles on my snout and forehead.
I’m a gentle, kindhearted pup who loves to play with my brothers and sisters, but I also cherish cuddling time with my foster humans. Giving kisses comes naturally to me! I’m curious and energetic, always eager to explore new things, but I’m just as happy being held and loved.
I’m crate-trained and working on going potty outside. One of my favorite activities is laying in the sun—I’m a natural sunbather! Plus, I’m a born leader; my siblings often look to me for direction.
If you’re searching for a loving, gentle, and playful companion with a big heart, I’m the perfect match. I can’t wait to find my forever home where I can lead with love and share all my smooshie-faced sweetness with you!

Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 14 days of a veterinarian deeming the dog or puppy is ready to be altered. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies.
Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.
We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process.
🔥🔥Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details.🔥🔥
Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
