My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Heya, my name is Dyson, and I’m an adorable little stinker! 😉  I’m looking for a very special family who can give me the home that I’ve longed for all my life.  Read on for my story!

I was rescued a few months ago by a really nice lady, and brought in for TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return).  After I had some time to settle in, I was sure to let everyone know that I’m a VERY friendly guy!  I showed up covered in burrs, fleas, and ticks, and starrrrrving, so I was NOT having a good time outside. In fact, the nice lady who rescued me named me Dyson, because I inhaled food like a vacuum cleaner when she found me.

I’m a bit of a rough diamond, and I need very patient, experienced adopters, who are willing to continue to work with me the way my fosters have, because I’ve come a long way!  I was bitey when I first came in; it was never malicious, and my peeps figured out it would happen when I was overstimulated, or around some food insecurity issues.  I’ve worked SUPER hard on this issue; I do still get a bit nibbly at times but it is VERY gentle now and doesn’t cause owies. Typically, it happens when I want more attention, or if I’m overstimulated.  I’ve gotten more secure about food time, and I finally understand there will always be enough to eat.

I am a VERY affectionate guy who loves people!  I’m a Velcro kitty; if you adopt me you’ll never have to potty alone again, I promise!  I’ll also be your wingman at chore time, helping you out along the way (okay maybe not helping so much as reminding you I’m there and making sure you take pet and play breaks…… you know you need that kind of balance in your life!)  I’m not a fan of being picked up, but I love pets and hanging out by your side. I need a calm, quiet home without other animals, as I tend to get aggressive with cats, and a home without children, because of my nibblies and tendency to get overstimulated.

I’m also FIV+, but please don’t let that deter you! I can still live a long, full, healthy life! Find out more here: https://fivcats.com/ If I get sick it might take me a bit longer to recover, but most of us FIV Kitties live long lives like our non-FIV friends, especially when we live indoors and receive regular vet care.  If you’re interested in adopting me but scared about the FIV, my helpers would be happy to talk with you!  They’ve worked with a lot of FIV kitties, and they’re happy to answer any questions you might have.

My helpers say I am quite the ham, and I keep them laughing with my silly antics.  I LOVE to play!!!  My helpers have found that when I have a lot of playtime as an outlet, my nibblies don’t happen nearly as often.  I’m a huge fan of wand toys, anything you can throw for me to chase (mice, balls, preferably with catnip!), cat tunnels, and paper bags.  Sometimes I’ll charge so hard into the cat tunnel that I flip the whole thing over with myself inside!  I also adore tree houses with scratch posts, as I like to be in high up places, especially for a good long cat nap.

So that’s my story…. I’m a very special guy, looking for his right family to love forever….. could that be you?

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an adoption application to learn a bit about the home our cats will be going to and the family's motivation for adoption and expectations about pet ownership. We also have an adoption contract, which includes a no declawing and indoor-only clause along with a vet promissory note that ensures you will continue with the medical care and spay/neuter if needed.

We DO NOT do any out of state adoptions except on the NC border on a case-by-case basis.

We require a donation of $120 for adoption of unaltered kittens with a PTV Contract. All kittens receive vaccine series and wormings as well as medical treatment as needed. The adopter is responsible for obtaining their rabies vaccine and spay/neuter if the kitten is not of age at the time of adoption. We can provide resources for low cost clinics that offer these services.

We ask a donation of $25 to adopt Career/barn cats.

We require a donation of at least $140 for adoption of Spayed/neutered cat.

Bonded pairs adoption donation is $200.

Sometimes we require rental checks or home inspections. We always have a Meet n Greet to make sure everyone gets along. We encourage bringing the whole family!

More about this rescue

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce feral cat population in Hampton Roads by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens for adoption into loving forever homes. We are a VDACS registered 501c3 nonprofit, founded in 2014 with over 60 foster homes.

Our heart is in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return of ferals), where cats are fixed, vaccinated, ear tipped, and allowed to live out their lives without reproducing. We are advocates for advancing legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads. Our unique feral kitten socialization program has a 90% success rate in socializing feral-born kittens to become loving, in-home pets.

We are always seeking fosters, volunteers, transporters, and trappers to join our team!

We also appreciate donations! Find our most needed items
