Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Are you looking for a senior dog to spoil in her golden years? Then you gotta learn more about Harper!
This little old lady was found wandering the streets of Yonkers all alone, with an oozing mass on her neck that had to have recently ruptured, making it extremely likely that if she hadn't been found when she was, she could have died from infection or any other terrible fate.
The shelter she had been brought to didn’t think they were up to taking care of her post-surgery after the lump had been taken off because while the vets were dealing with the one that had ruptured, they found another one on the opposite side of her neck that also had to be removed, in addition to a heart murmur.
And that was how we learned about Harper, the shelter reached out to see if we would be able to take her in and when we heard her story, there was no way we could say no. Luckily, testing confirmed that there shouldn’t be any further complications from the masses and she was able to get a second chance with us.
We think Harper is a purebred miniature schnauzer (going off her cropped ears and docked tail) and are guessing that she’s somewhere between 12 and 16 years old but she is absolutely thriving in her foster home! She has some typical senior health complications, like she’s not able to see super well, she has some hearing loss and she was originally a little incontinent and would urinate a little in her sleep (which is currently being helped with medication and is no longer a problem) but she doesn’t let any of that slow her down and is living her best little old lady life. And she’s looking for someone to spend the rest of that life with!
She loves people and does well with other dogs as long as they leave her alone while she’s eating (something she takes VERY seriously). She walks amazingly on the leash for walks and will run alongside you at times to prove just how young at heart she still is!
Harper is spayed, microchipped, and up to date with her vaccinations and would do best in a calm, quiet home with people to dote on her. We typically ask for an adoption donation, but Harper is a part of our UnderDog Program, so we aren’t asking for anything except for a home to give her the love she deserves.
If you are interested in adopting her, you can fill out an adoption application for her on our website, waywardranch.org, or reach out to us if you have any questions!
