My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WHAT IS UP FRENCH FRIES! My name is Potato- a 14 week old pibble with a very long list of potato-themed nicknames.

Tato Chip, Tater Tot, Po-tots, Po-TAH-to, pibble, piblet, riblet, McRib... my foster moms really know how to capture my charm.

A few weeks ago, I was a little fearful of just about everything. I left my mom and littermates a little too soon, and it took some time for me to learn the confidence I would otherwise learn from them! A singleton puppy can sometimes struggle with being scared and fearful, so landing in a foster home with older dogs to show me the ropes made me feel so much safer!

After some time with my older brothers, I have become a confident and scrappy puppy. My favorite pastimes include chasing my older brothers, snuggling my older brothers, and following them around all day. I am truly their little shadow! For this reason, I would love to have a sibling in my forever home.

I have been working on potty-training and crate-training and have made lots of progress! While not perfect at either, I am learning fast! That being said, I do really prefer to sleep in bed with my humans. I am scared of the dark, and feel much safer with you!

Leash walking is a work in progress, mostly because I am still a BIT unsure of the world sometimes. With proper reinforcement, I will no doubt become a dapper gentleman on a leash!

My one true passion in life is snuggling. I must be touching my human at all times while napping, just to make sure I am extra safe!

I am truly one of the sweetest, snuggliest, and sensitive pups at Pet Haven. My perfect home is one that will love me to the ends of the earth, and make sure I know each day that I am safe and loved, and respect that I am a sensitive little man- I have lots of feelings!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
