My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Red is a beautiful, timid girl that came to us very pregnant. She gave birth to 8 very sweet puppies and is now looking for a home for herself. Red is quiet and reserved at first but warms up very quickly. Her favorite thing is to be close to her person at all times. She seems to do well with most other dogs but isn't a fan of cats. She would do best in a home with someone who is able to spend lots of time with her or who is able to bring her along. She is a heeler so a home that is able to take her on lots of adventures would be her ideal situation. If you think she sounds like the pup for you, please will out a questionnaire or call the center at 250-509-0297.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
