My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Requirements:
No kids under four
Fenced yard for potty breaks
Someone who can arrange to take him out for potty breaks every 4 hours or so (either WFH or able to arrange for visits from a dog-walker)
Hi There! I’m Gelato, your future furry best friend, and I'm as sweet as my name suggests!

My friends call me Jelly, or Gel, or Otto, or Puppy... whatever is fine! I’m a spirited little pup with a heart full of love and a tail that wags like there’s no tomorrow! I’m about 7 months old, weigh around 10 pounds, and I’m a charming dachshund mix. People tell me I’m the perfect little package of joy, and I’m here to find my forever home where I can share all my snuggles, playful antics, and boundless energy with someone special—could that someone be you?

Let’s start with the basics: I’m a social butterfly! I absolutely adore people and have an uncanny ability to make new friends wherever I go. Whether it’s a friendly face walking by the yard or a neighbor I see on my walk, I’m always ready to greet everyone with a wagging tail and a big, happy smile. My enthusiasm for life is contagious, and I promise I’ll bring a whole lot of joy and laughter into your life.

I love toys and I’m always up for a good game of fetch. I’m quite the little athlete! I love running around and chasing after humans, toys, and/or balls. I’m a big fan of walks, too. There’s nothing quite like exploring new sights and smells with my favorite human by my side. You've gotta keep an eye on me, though, because I also like putting everything I find on the ground in my mouth! Leaves, acorns, twigs, pieces of mulch... anything crunchy is fair game.

If you’ve got a canine companion at home, I think we’ll get along just fine! Having another dog to play with would be absolutely delightful. The older, more reserved dogs in my foster home think I'm a little "extra" and get tired of my antics, but that hasn't stopped me from trying to play with them any time I'm in the mood! I’m not phased by cats either, so if you have a feline friend, I’m sure we’ll figure things out and be just fine.

Now, I do have a little bit of room for growth when it comes to my manners. I’m not fully housetrained yet, but I’m learning quickly! I will need someone who can let me out to do business ever 3-5 hours during the day (at least until I get the hang of it) and once overnight. I also need a yard of my own, as I am not consistently doing my business on a leash quite yet. With a little patience and some positive reinforcement, I’m sure I’ll be a pro at this in no time.

One thing to note is that I’m still a bit nippy and lacking in self-control (you know, puppy stuff), so a home with very young children might not be the best fit for me right now. I’m learning to manage my excitement, but I think I’d be happiest with a family without kids or with kids that are a bit older and accustomed to high-energy pups.

In return for all the love and care you’ll shower on me, I promise to be your loyal companion, your adventure buddy, and your cuddle buddy all rolled into one. I’ll greet you with wagging tail and a happy bark whenever you come home, and I’ll be your steadfast friend through thick and thin.

What are you waiting for? I’m ready to make your home my forever home. Come meet me and see for yourself how wonderful life can be with a loving little pup like me by your side!

I can’t wait to meet you and start our new adventure together!
Paws and wiggles,

Gelato

Additional adoption info

The apps are submitted and intensely screened for general approval by a phone interview and vet check. Once approved it is sent to the foster to see if it is a match for their foster dog where another interview takes place. If both agree it seems like a good fit. A meet is scheduled where the whole potential family and any current pets meet the foster and foster dog. A home check is done. Then once both agree it is in fact a good fit, they will sign a contract, pay a fee and take the dog home that day if the foster likes, or the next day so both parties can sleep on it to make sure it's right.

More about this rescue

We are 100% volunteer run rescue saving dogs from high kill shelters throughout the state of Georgia. We do not discriminate breeds, health concerns, injury, illness or surgical need. We save all ages, sizes, breeds, etc. Once saved - they are sent straight to the vet to be fully examined, have any health concerns addressed and cleared and then sent to the foster home for evaluation. Once evaluated, we come up with a bio to determine their best fit for a forever home.
