My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello . . . my name is Basil and I’m a 6-year-old Havanese boy who weighs 15 lbs.  If I had to tell you about myself, I would say I love everyone and am very loyal. Plus, I am really handsome!  My foster says there are SO many positive things to say about me, so I hope you enjoy reading more about me!

General Behavior: Basil can best be described as a sweet, “Velcro Boy” who loves to be near his person and loves to follow you around the house.  He is not one to demand attention, but when he wants affection, he will simply stand up and paw at you.  This easy-to-care for fella can be independent, patient, quiet, athletic and confident. He can be playful during the day, but also is chill and enjoys his naps during the day.
Likes & Dislikes: Basil loves a good snuggle with his person on the couch.  There is no such thing as too many toys in Basil’s world.  He’s a fan of balls, squeaky toys and stuffed toys.  He loves chewing bones more than anything and because of his love for chewing, he can be destructive with his precious toys.
Training: Basil is housetrained in his foster home and is quick to do his business outside.  He will need to continue to be let out on a regular schedule.   He walks well on a leash and has good basic manners.  He tolerates a car ride. He knows the “sit” command and should do great with learning other commands due to him being a treat-motivated guy.  Basil is a total “foodie” and will try to steal your food, so his new human should be cautious with feeding routines so that everyone gets their own food. Basil shows no aggression over food, bones, toys or people. We think Basil must be part kangaroo when it comes to jumping . . . especially to get to any food left out on the table or when his human leaves the couch.
Medical:  Bouncy Basil is a healthy pooch who will just require his monthly heartworm and flea prevention.
Other Animals: Basil has been around dogs of all sizes and has experience with calm, laid back dogs, as well as playful ones.  He loves playing chase with them.  He seems quiet with calm dogs and loud when he’s around other dogs that like to bark.  He also is experienced being around cats.
Children: Basil would be fine in a home with children of all ages.
Home: In the foster home he shares with other dogs, Basil can be left alone for several hours without issues.    He has been a good boy when he has free reign with the other dogs and also appreciates his own space to go to  throughout the day and at night when he’s ready for bed. Basil would be okay in a single-family home, apartment, townhouse or condo.
Grooming: Basil will need weekly hair brushing and professional grooming approximately every 8 weeks.  The cost of grooming should be considered by any potential adopter as an ongoing cost.  He will also need “at home spa days” for nail trimming and bathing, as well as getting his teeth brushed a few times a week (something he is used to having done in his foster home).
Overall: Basil is an extroverted fella looking to find his fur-ever home.  If you are looking for a pup that will offer you lots of love and joy, he might be the one for you.  All he asks in return is a loving, committed home to call his own.

Could you be the one for Basil?  Please visit our website, www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt.  You’ll be put in contact with his foster family if it’s a potential match.  Basil is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped.  His adoption donation is $325.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
