FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOMES NEEDED!!

***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form***

We would love to welcome Sailor into the Fetch + Releash family on November 17th, 2024 (subject to change). In order for Sailor to come into our care, we need a committed family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you'll be expected to take her home on her arrival date. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until her new forever family can be found.

Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog's nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions.

Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet in Mississauga, ON for further vet care.

During your foster-to-adopt trial, you'll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Sailor / Female / 1 year / 50 pounds / Mixed Breed / Sweet & Humble / Ideal Family Dog / From Tennessee

Meet Sailor, a resilient pup who was found abandoned with her brother at a Sonic in rural Tennessee. They sought shelter under the sign until a compassionate employee called for help, leading them to the safety of our partner's care. Now, Sailor is ready to leave her past behind and find a loving forever home.

Having spent her early days outdoors without structure, routine, or training, Sailor will need a patient family to help her adjust to indoor life. Although she's a friendly girl, it's best to introduce Sailor slowly to new people and environments to prevent overwhelming her. She's a blank slate for training, and her youth and eagerness to please make her a great candidate for learning. She'll need to master basics like potty training, crate training, and walking on a leash. Being young, Sailor has plenty of energy, so her new family should be prepared for multiple daily walks, training sessions, and other forms of mental stimulation to keep her fulfilled.

Living with her brother, Sailor is more submissive and lets him take the lead. She's sweet and friendly but may be shy at first due to the drastic change in her life. With time and space to open up at her own pace, she will thrive. Sailor would do well as a second dog or as the sole pet in her new home. While she hasn't met any children yet, her temperament suggests she'd be fine with older, dog-savvy kids. A yard would be a bonus since she's used to being outdoors, but it's not a necessity. She's not a vocal dog, so she could adapt to apartment or condo living as long as her physical needs are met. Sailor receives limited attention now but is eager to soak up all the love she can get.

With a life filled with love and companionship, Sailor will form an unbreakable bond with her new family. Are you ready to give Sailor the forever home she deserves?

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 72 hours, please remember we are a volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.

If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.

After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.

After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.

A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
