My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We think that Scoutt is a Westie mix based on his look. Here is a little information about the breed. Smart, confident, and always entertaining at play, the adorable West Highland White Terrier (Westie, for short) has charmed owners for over 300 years. This diminutive but sturdy earthdog is among the most popular of the small terriers. Standing 10 to 11 inches at the shoulder, with dark piercing eyes, compact body, and a carrot-shaped tail wagging with delight, the Westie's looks are irresistible. Beneath the plush-toy exterior, though, is a true working terrier of gameness and courage. Bred to hunt rats and other underground rodents, Westies are surprisingly strong and tough. The all-white double coat is hard to the touch, not soft and fluffy. Alert and active, Westies exhibit traits of a plucky and self-reliant ratting terrier: They require no pampering, they will chase after anything that moves, and their independence can make training a challenge. But, thanks to their faithfulness and keen intelligence, Westies will train nicely with time and patience. Be ready to adopt.
Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Rockki is a gorgeous 1 year terrier mix. He is a youngster who was a stray and has the perfect smile to melt anyone’s ❤️. Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member.

Shelter Hope Pet Shop is located in Janss Marketplace, 275 N. Moorpark Rd, #193G, in Thousand Oaks. We're located between Gold's Gym and Nordstrom Rack inside the Janss Marketplace mall. We're open Monday-Thursday by appointment only, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for walk-ins and appointments 11am-4pm. We also do off-site events as much as possible to get more animals adopted...

More about this rescue

We are a volunteer-based pet shop that carries shelter animals available for in-store adoption. Janss Marketplace donates the space to us, we have amazing volunteers, and we pull animals from high-kill shelters, and showcase them in a busy mall environment, where they gain great exposure and find loving new homes.

We have found over 15,000 homes for shelter animals since our opening in November 2011.

SHPS is part of the Shelter Hope Project, which strives to make this the business model for all mall pet shops. We hope to abolish all puppy-mill pet shops, help find homes for the countless pets in our shelters that face being euthanized, and educate the public on how we can ALL help reduce future shelter population.
