My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi Everyone - I'm Aurora. I'm a beautiful 9 month old kitty (as of March) with the thickest, softest fur that's perfect for petting. I'm a gentle soul with a pretty mellow personality so I manage to stay out of mischief - most of the time anyway! Though I'm a little on the shy side as soon as we're acquainted I'll be sure to jump on your lap for some pets and cuddling. I really do LOVE to play! It doesn't matter if it's a ball, toy mouse or wand toy - as soon as the toys come out I'm ready for some fun! I do great with other cats and have been around dogs so should do fine with both of them in my new home. I'd be happiest in a home without a lot of commotion where I can lay on soft blankets in sun puddles or on my favorite person's lap while I purr and snooze away. If you are looking for a calm sweetheart of a kitty I hope you consider me. I promise to be the best girl!

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Northeast Iowa (HSNEI) is a 501(c)(3) humane society founded in 1995, in Decorah, Iowa, to help homeless companion animals in the five-county area of Northeast Iowa (Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, and Winneshiek counties). Since our founding, we have offered numerous services including dog and cat rescue, fostering and adoption services, humane education, safety and family fun fairs, microchipping for pet identification, financial assistance in spaying/neutering and pet referral services.

Our rescue and adoption program provides temporary care at the Love & Friendship Adoption Center and in foster homes for unwanted and abandoned animals. We also provide a website to help in finding adoptive homes for these animals.

In 2013 the Spay/Neuter Assistance Program of Northeast Iowa (SNAP) joined HSNEI to become one organization working for animals in northeast Iowa.

HSNEI is a Best Friends Network Partner and a PetCo Foundation Partner.
