Gus Gus is a sweet, shy Cane Corso puppy who’s still learning about the big world around him. Playful and curious, he’s eager to explore but needs a patient owner who can help him build his confidence. Gus Gus is very food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding—he’s always ready to learn when treats are involved! That being said Cane Corsos are a powerful, intelligent, and loyal breed that requires experienced handling and training. Due to their size, strength, and protective instincts, Cane Corsos are not ideal for first-time dog owners. They thrive in homes where they receive consistent training, early socialization, and a clear understanding of boundaries.
Though he’s still a bit timid, Gus Gus has a playful spirit and will thrive with socialization and positive experiences. He’s looking for someone who understands that he’s a work in progress and can give him the time, patience, and love he needs to grow into a confident adult dog. Gus Gus would do best in a home where he can receive consistent training, plenty of socialization, and lots of love. He’ll need someone who is patient with his shyness and willing to put in the time to help him feel secure. With guidance, he’ll become a loyal and loving companion.

Take your time getting to know the animal you wish to adopt. The pet you choose should be your pet for the rest of its life, so spend the time necessary to make the right choice. Our staff is happy to assist you in taking a dog out of the kennels or socializing with a cat in the cat room. We encourage each person in your household to get acquainted with an animal before it becomes a new member of your family. We also suggest you bring your present pets in for an introduction to the new animal to form some ideas about their compatibility. Our shelter is open Tuesday through Friday, 12-5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am-5 pm. In order to complete the adoption process, it is necessary to begin adoptions by 4:30pm.

More about this shelter
Our mission is to provide animals with loving care and lasting homes, to partner with communities striving to do the same, and to advance our no-kill legacy.
We accomplish our mission by transferring cats and dogs to our facilities from public shelters in the Bay Area and beyond when they are in danger of being euthanized due to space or financial limitations.
Pets In Need has shelters in Redwood City and Palo Alto. We have owned and operated our Redwood City shelter since 1993, and in 2019 we began operating the Palo Alto Animal Shelter in partnership with the City of Palo Alto.
Pets In Need is now operating the Palo Alto Animal Shelter. The City of Palo Alto still provides Animal Control Services for the cities of Palo Alto, Los Altos, & Los Altos Hills, CA
