Charlie is an adorable 5-month-old puppy who weighs approximately 17 pounds. Charlie has several breed characteristics of a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen and is an exceptionally smart puppy. He is loving, has a sweet temperament, and is active and playful. He enjoys toys, splashing in his water bowl, playing fetch, and zooming around the yard.
Charlie would thrive in a home that can establish a fairly predictable routine and provide him sufficient exercise and training opportunities. Because he is a happy and bouncy pup, he would do well in a home with other children who would not be overwhelmed by a dog with an energetic personality.
Charlie is doing well with housebreaking and learned how to use a dog door after one attempt. He is learning crate-training and tolerates it well for up to a four hour stretch. He is also crated during car rides. He can be vocal at times when excited or the door bell rings. So he most likely would not be a good fit for an apartment lifestyle.
Charlie lives in a foster home with 5 other dogs of various sizes. He has also been exposed to a deaf cat. He initially found the cat to be a bizarre alien since the cat did not react to his barking. However, he now finds the cat’s presence to be routine. It is unknown how he would do with a cat that would react to his barking.
Charlie will require daily brushing. His new owner should be familiar with the line brushing technique and Charlie tolerates his daily brushing sessions quite well. Charlie will also require regular grooming sessions with a professional groomer.
Please understand you are committing to providing a good home for his entire life (up to 15+ years or more) - not just until his puppy cuteness wears off.
You must be committed to housebreaking, age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization. Like most puppies, he may chew on anything within his reach to include but not limited to baseboards, shoes, socks, children's toys, electrical cords, plants, etc.
His adoption fee is $350. This includes his neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPP vaccinations, Drontal® Plus, Tri-Heart® Plus Chewable Tablet, 24PetWatch® microchip, and leash and collar.
Please be aware that puppies and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so interested parties are encouraged to apply online at www.saspca.org.
Please ensure your application is complete before submitting. We do verify property ownership, landlord references, apartment/HOA restrictions, veterinary references, and criminal histories.
