My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Daisy

Daisy is a short-haired pure dachshund who is 8 years old and 17lbs. She’s a laidback lovely who enjoys couches, naps, and snoozing pretty much anywhere. She came to us when her previous owner sadly passed, and she’s a very adaptable girl. She loves love of all kinds—pets, kisses, hugs—and is looking for a home get all the attention she so deserves.

Environment

Daisy is crate and house trained, and even understands pee pads if she needs to. She's a quick learner who picked up the routine in her foster home within the week. She loves going on walks, doesn’t pull or tug on the leash, and equally enjoys sunny snoozes. She isn’t a flight risk and doesn’t require a fenced yard, nor is she very vocal so a home with shared walls is just fine. At most she will bark to say hello to visitors but quickly quiets back down. Her main requirement is someone who is home more often than not, she’s not used to being left alone.

Pets & People

Daisy has done amazingly in groups of dogs and would fit well in pretty much any pack. She loves all people—so long as they pet her—but she’s untested with children. We’d like to place her somewhere without small children so she can get comfy and enjoy her retirement years on her terms.

Health

Daisy is a bit of a foodie and often a couch potato. She’s currently on farmer’s dog food to help with her weight loss journey. She wants to eat everything so you’ll need to be careful with your fingers while giving treats and she doesn’t know boundaries around human food. She’s not aggressive though and doesn’t guard her bowl. She still needs to lose a little bit of weight to benefit her health, but that can definitely be achieved with extra activity and careful portions.

Location

Daisy is available for adoption from Miami, FL  and loves to ride in the car so anywhere within a reasonable distance is fine! Please email yoripoduje@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Daisy is $325.00.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
