My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pedrito came into the local county shelter as a 3-day-old orphan late on a Saturday afternoon with only a couple of hours to find a foster and get out of the shelter. With only 10 minutes left, nobody had stepped up for her and we just couldn't let her be euthanized. The shelter staff claimed she was the cutest kitten of the 2023 kitten season yet and they weren't wrong! She's absolutely adorable, super soft, and has the biggest alert round eyes!

And if cuteness isn't enough, she is OBSESSED with human affection. Since Pedrito was raised by a human from the very beginning of her life, she seems to know no difference between humans and cats. In fact, she loved being babied by her human foster mom so much, she refused to hit her kitten milestones. When Pedrito was old enough to use the litter box on her own, she refused! When she was old enough to wean off the bottle, she also refused! When her foster mom tried to switch her to wet food, she wouldn't eat unless she was syringe-fed. Eventually, she learned to eat from a bowl, but ONLY if she was within a few inches of her foster mom--preferably on her foster mom's lap! She has since become VERY good at eating on her own (she prefers dry food) and uses the litter box 100% of the time. But she still loves being babied! Pedrito loves to be held like a small child and nuzzle her face against yours. She's known to even climb onto your shoulder just to be close to you. When she spots you nearing her, she'll lean out ready for some love and will stick her face up to yours for kisses.

She's very "clean" and loves to sniff around for messes to clean up. If you leave toothpaste in your sink, she'll let you know by trying to cover it. She also has a habit of joining you in the bath or the shower. She doesn't like it, but it doesn't stop her! She'll dive right in, scramble to get out, run away and then come back to do it again. We advise showering with the door shut LOL.

If you're wondering what's up with her name, we'll tell you a little story! When Pedrito first came into Rebels Rescue, she was too little to tell 100% if she was male or female. The county shelter gave their best guess that she was male. Her foster momma confirmed this with a vet a couple of weeks later. And based on her neediness, love for affection, and laid-back attitude--which is typically associated with boy kitties more than girl kitties--we were certain male was correct. So you can imagine how shocked we were when we picked Pedrito up from surgery and found out "he" had been spayed! Sure, we could change her name to Pedrita or Petra or Rita, but she's been Pedrito from day 1 and it has kinda stuck. So we've decided to keep her name Pedrito for now :) We can't wait for her to meet her new family and see what they will name this precious little girl!!

Why hasn't precious, human-loving Pedrito been adopted yet? It's been quite the long road for her! She had her first kitty cold around a week old and struggled with kitty colds on and off for much of the first several months of her life. We had her tested for viruses and diseases associated with cold symptoms and treated her accordingly. Thankfully, none of the tests for lifelong illnesses came back positive! But despite multiple rounds of treatments, just when we thought she was in the clear, she'd get sneezy again. And so we decided to wait it out and get to the bottom of it so we could make sure any special medical needs could be communicated appropriately to her adopter. And as it turns out, she just has occasional allergies! She's been sneeze-free for a couple months now, no medication needed, and we feel she is finally ready to start her search for her furever home!

Pedrito has grown up in a home with other kittens, adult cats, a 60-lb dog, and a 7-year-old human. She gets along great with all of them. She even took a field trip to a Kindergarten class and was very well-behaved with all of the children! She does enjoy playing with the other cats and kittens, but she would do well as an only cat as long as she got lots of attention, extra snuggles and plenty of playtime with her human!
