Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a
question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If
interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.
Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file.
Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Philadelphia, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.
Meet Rocky! Rocky is an 11-year-old, 23 lb. poodle mix who was left at the shelter by his owner. He was weak, scared, and in a lot of pain before we lovingly brought him into our rescue.
Rocky was quickly groomed to fix his matted fur and had to be treated for urinary and ear infections. He was also neutered and received a dental. Rocky has good hearing but limited vision. He gets along well with cats and other calm dogs and can handle a few stairs. Rocky wears belly bands and diapers. He requires frequent potty breaks so an owner who is home most of the time would be ideal. When he needs to be alone for several hours, his foster mom will diaper him. Rocky is eager to please but not super fast to learn so he will need a very patient owner. He gets scared and defensive at loud, angry voices so he would do best in an adult-only home or one with dog savvy children. However, Rocky also responds very well to positive reinforcement. It will take Rocky a bit of time to get adjusted to a new environment, but with much patience and praise, he will love you forever.
Thanks to his amazing foster mom, Rocky has transformed from a scared dog into a sweet, happy boy who dances for his dinner. He loves to play, demands belly rubs, and wags his tail whenever someone enters a room. Rocky enjoys exploring and taking “sniff walks.” At night he likes to be patted on the head so he knows you are nearby. All this sweet boy needs is a patient, understanding family to help him live his best life. Can it please be you? Apply today!

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs. To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers. For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.
Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue
We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).
Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
