My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rescue is never easy but some days are harder than others, especially on days when we’re reminded how unfathomably awful human beings can be. We met this incredibly malnourished boy during a walk through at the shelter and when they offered to transport him to us, we just didn’t have the heart to say no despite being full.
Meet Invader Zim He was an owner surrender that was quite literally THROWN over the closed shelter gates in the middle of the night and tossed aside like he was nothing but trash. But don’t worry, they made sure to throw some toys over with him He is roughly 3-4 years old and in appalling condition. He weighs in at 19 pounds when he should be at least twice that size, he has chunks of scabs and fur falling off of him with every step, and has what’s probably irreversible joint damage causing an adorably wonky gait from being kept in a confined space during his formative growing years. And yet, though he has no reason to trust humans after years of living with this abuse, he is nothing but an absolute love and just the sweetest boy ever. He’s all cuddles and kisses, and just so eager to receive affection. We really don’t deserve dogs.
He has a strict daily caloric intake to ensure that he’s getting the proper nutrients he’s been lacking for so long and will get small meals throughout the day to ensure that he’s gaining weight safely. If he could, Zim would eat to his hearts content but his eyes are much bigger than his stomach right now and too much food too quickly can cause bloat, which can often be deadly.
Zim has a long way to go before he’s ready for adoption but we cannot wait to show him exactly what being loved, and being full, feels like. Stay tuned for more updates on this remarkable young man’s journey!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

When you adopt a dog from Swamp Haven, you’re not just saving a life. You’re beginning a journey filled with love, loyalty and trust. Life can be busy and stressful. The companionship of a dog is a constant reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things. At Swamp Haven, our mission isn’t to just help down-on-their-luck dogs find their forever homes. Our mission is to create a lasting relationship with you and your family.
Adopt happiness. Our adoption process is unique in that we work with you every step of the way to ensure that we’re placing the right dog with the right family. First, chat with us about what you’re looking for in a dog and we will set up a time for you to meet the lucky pup. From there, fill out an application. Once reviewed we set up a time to bring your potential pup to your house for a home visit and trial week. We want to make sure it’s the right fit for both your family and the dog involved. We will be totally available during the trial week for any questions or concerns. The last step is to finalize the adoption. And then congrats, you’re a new member of the Swamp Haven family and your happy tail has just begun!

Our adoption fee is $350

More about this rescue

Swamp Haven is an animal rescue organization that takes down-on-their-luck dogs and nurtures them back to a healthy mental and physical state, so they can find their forever home. Our goal is simple. We save innocent dogs that have been overlooked by society and provide short-term care including vetting (vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip and heartworm and flea prevention) and training to learn how to walk politely on a leash, play in a pack and live calmly and lovingly in their new home.
