My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

R 99E, L 74070 ,LK’s Ablaze

I'm Blaze! I love naps (Lazy Blazey), scritches, comfy beds, cuddles. I also love hard boiled eggs and my favorite thing is doing a BIG stretch in the morning.
I have a goofy little mouse face and black-and-white "panda paws". I have a funny way of sitting down where I lower my face first then my butt. I am a lazy boy! I am a good listener (you can ask me to go to my kennel). And a good walker! I'm a little skittish at first but seem to be warming up nicely. I get along great with people, including new people. I sometimes get feisty or greyhounds when I'm nervous and in a new situation. I just need a slow, low-excitement introduction to greyhounds in the same house and then I'm fine with them after we settle in. I haven't been around other dogs yet. I would rather not go for very long walks. Around the mile mark I start slowing down a fair bit. I'd rather nap. I would rather not eat hard/crunchy food... please soften it with water! I would also prefer not poop while on a leash and when humans are watching. I might do better with a yard or with someone that can help me work on my pooping shyness. I'm not big on rowdy dogs, calm dogs are okay, so I probably would do best in a home without other dogs. My foster person says that I would be a great dog for a home that is NOT super active and that he has been very polite by respecting my belongings, staying off furniture, and being calm when I leave him alone during the day. He sleeps great at night and is still a bit wary of mirrors. Hope to find my forever family soon!

Personality Traits:   laid back, independent, shy, apprehensive, skeptical

More about this rescue

We are the Minnesota chapter of Greyhound Pets of America.

Greyhound Pets of America is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation founded in 1987 for the purpose of finding homes for ex-racing greyhounds and educating the public on the suitability and availability of greyhounds as pets.

All of our greyhounds go into foster homes where they can acclimate to their new lives as retired racers. We also get a better idea of their personalities so we can make the best possible match with their new family.

We have found great success in matching the personalities of the greyhounds with the personalities of the new families. We test all our greyhounds to see if they can live with small animals and many of our greyhounds go on to live in families with other pets, including cats.

Greyhound Pets of America - Minnesota is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to the cause of rescuing retired greyhounds. GPA-MN and our volunteers are committed to making sure all our greyhounds have a happy, safe and long life while in our care as well as after they find their forever homes.

If you're planning to get a dog, we hope you will consider adopting one of our retired racers!
