My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shine is our 3-4-year-old male Tosa Inu with a heart as big as his size. This gentle giant has overcome a harsh past and is now searching for a loving forever home.

In December 2023, Shine and 11 other dogs were cruelly used in a political protest by the Dog Meat Farmers Association in Korea. Left abandoned, terrified, sick, and malnourished in small cages, in the street, they were transported to Sejong City Shelter. This Shelter was not prepared to care for the dogs, resulting in Shine being rescued from unimaginable conditions due to no treatment or care available.

Since his rescue, Shine has been rehabilitated and is now a sweet, affectionate companion. He loves resting his big head on your chest while you relax on the couch and is happiest lounging on a cozy bed. Shine enjoys mellow moments but also loves playing with his foster sibling in open spaces. He’s a gentle cuddle bug ready to find his forever home.

More about this rescue

Korean K9 Rescue is a volunteer-driven No-Kill dog rescue organization based in Queens, New York and Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, South Korea As a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we transport homeless and mistreated dogs from South Korea and place them with loving forever families, primarily in New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles. Because of an unfortunate stigma surrounding mixed-breed dogs–and the dog meat trade that persists within the country–many dogs in South Korea are unlikely to be adopted at home and are in grave danger of being euthanized.

We believe that all dogs should be happy and free. With our partners in Korea, we are stepping in to help at-risk dogs live healthy, happy, long lives. Please join us in our mission!
