My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bartley is a 7 year old orange boy who was surrendered to a shelter at no fault of his own. He was unfortunately slated for euthanasia because of his diabetes, but Billy the Kidden Rescue couldn’t let that happen!

He was brought into a loving foster home experienced with feline diabetes. With a change of diet, and a short time on insulin, Bartley’s diabetes went into remission. He is no longer on insulin, but his foster mama checks his blood sugar at home about once a month to make sure it is still in the optimal range. Ideally, he would have an adopter willing to do the same (we can show you how and Bartley is a very willing participant!) and be aware of the signs in case his diabetes comes back.

He currently eats a low carb (non prescription) diet of Fancy Feast Pate and Tiki Cat dry food. There are other low carb dry options as well. Because of his special diet, he eats separate from the other cats in the house. He is very vocal and lets his foster momma know when he is ready to come out of the bedroom and join the rest of the family!

Bartley is a very chill, laid back cat who gets along well with the other cats in his foster home. He would love for someone to give him a second chance at a forever home!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an adoption application to learn a bit about the home our cats will be going to and the family's motivation for adoption and expectations about pet ownership. We also have an adoption contract, which includes a no declawing and indoor-only clause along with a vet promissory note that ensures you will continue with the medical care and spay/neuter if needed.

We DO NOT do any out of state adoptions except on the NC border on a case-by-case basis.

We require a donation of $120 for adoption of unaltered kittens with a PTV Contract. All kittens receive vaccine series and wormings as well as medical treatment as needed. The adopter is responsible for obtaining their rabies vaccine and spay/neuter if the kitten is not of age at the time of adoption. We can provide resources for low cost clinics that offer these services.

We ask a donation of $25 to adopt Career/barn cats.

We require a donation of at least $140 for adoption of Spayed/neutered cat.

Bonded pairs adoption donation is $200.

Sometimes we require rental checks or home inspections. We always have a Meet n Greet to make sure everyone gets along. We encourage bringing the whole family!

We also have adoptable adults at Pembroke PetSmart, 4421 Virginia Beach Blvd in Virginia Beach.

More about this rescue

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce feral cat population in Hampton Roads by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens for adoption into loving forever homes. We are a VDACS registered 501c3 nonprofit, founded in 2014 with over 60 foster homes.

Our heart is in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return of ferals), where cats are fixed, vaccinated, ear tipped, and allowed to live out their lives without reproducing. We are advocates for advancing legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads. Our unique feral kitten socialization program has a 90% success rate in socializing feral-born kittens to become loving, in-home pets.

We are always seeking fosters, volunteers, transporters, and trappers to join our team!

We also appreciate donations! Find our most needed items
