My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dr. Seuss!!!!

Dr. Seuss was a stray in Mississippi, where he hung out at the shelter for sometime. You ask why??? Well, because he is a black dog. We know that's terrible, but he ended up on the euthanasia list because of this reason. Fetching Hearts Rescue took him in immediately. That was not going to happen under our watch.

Dr. Seuss we cannot say enough good things about him. Despite being in the shelter for 4 months and undergoing heartworm treatment, he has retained his joyful personality and disposition. He is used for testing all income dogs to the shelter. He is so welcoming and friendly to all dogs. One of the awesome qualities about Dr. Seuss is he will adjust his energy level based on the dog he is playing with. Dr. Seuss is such a loving boy who will make a true best friend to an active couple or family. He will enjoy going on hikes, walks, going to doggie daycare, or even the dog park for playdates. In no time, Dr. Seuss will attach himself to you. He has no fears. Just an joyful boy up for anything.

Don't miss out on Dr. Seuss. He cannot wait to meet his forever family and start the memories. He deserves it 100%!!! Apply now for him.

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (Kennel Cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming, Microchip, Flea and Tick Prevention and Heartworm Prevention.

Spay/Neuter
All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

VETTING NOTE: Fetching Hearts Rescue completely vets our dogs thoroughly to the best of our knowledge based on communication with our Southern Vets. If anything is brought to our attention, we treat the dog. After adopting the dog, you will be responsible for following up with all vetting going forward.

HEARTWORM NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 5-6 months from the last Heartworm treatment.

More about this rescue

Fetching Hearts Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3), volunteer run rescue that is dedicated to saving dogs who have been abused, neglected or abandoned and finding loving, caring homes for them.

We rely on a network of foster families so that each dog that we pull into the safety of our rescue is placed in a foster home and is no longer confined to a life in a kennel.

We are committed to helping dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes by partnering with shelters and animal control services right here in Connecticut as well as with several high kill shelters in the South.

We do a full assessment of each dog's temperament and health to ensure that we are able to find the most suitable home for them. Every dog is fully vetted - meaning they are up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, heartworm negative and micro chipped - before being adopted.

The ASPCA estimates that approximately 3.3 million dogs in the United States enter shelters each year, of which approximately 670,000 are euthanized*. Our goal is to advocate for and provide education about the need for spaying and neutering to eliminate what has become an epidemic of unwanted dogs.*
