Lady Darling - Approximately 3 years old - 17 pounds - Jack Russell Terrier / Beagle / Chihuahua mix
Lady Darling was picked up as a stray scrounging for food by a dumpster in Georgia. She was taken to a shelter, unclaimed after a 7 day stray hold, and scheduled for euthanasia despite the fact that she was heavily pregnant. BCAA saved her and transported her up to New Jersey. She arrived on a Sunday and on Wednesday she delivered nine puppies -- a huge litter for a tiny girl. Lady Darling worked hard to keep her pups healthy and everyone is thriving and ready to be adopted.
Lady Darling is also ready for a home of her own. Things she loves: walks, a fenced back yard, companionship, head scratches, and food. Things she does not love: motorcycles, loud trucks, and car rides (she gets carsick when she has to travel long distances).
While she may be small, Lady Darling is mighty. She is good on a leash but requires a firm grip as she will lunge at any rabbit, chipmunk, or squirrel that she sees. She is a determined walker and would benefit from 2-3 long walks a day. Lady Darling is good with other dogs but nervous with large dogs - she will adjust once she realizes they won't bother her. She is amicable with cats as long as they are amicable with her.
Lady Darling is also a good early alert system - she will bark when the mailman comes or if anyone walks by. Lady Darling understands the word "no". She will come running when you call her or if you open the refrigerator. She is VERY interested in food and you will need to work hard to keep her out of your lap while you are at the table. She does not understand boundaries! She will hop like a kangaroo when she knows a treat is coming and she will snatch at it (not in a vicious way but she could use some work on manners when it comes to food).
The most important thing we want for Lady Darling is a family who will love her unconditionally and give her the attention and kindness she deserves. If that sounds like, apply at bcaaofnj.org
