My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Great Pyrenees dogs (even those who are only 62% GP) don't get more beautiful than Zoey. She immediately captured the heart of our West Bradenton caretaker, who would be adopting her if she didn't already have a number of personal dogs.

Zoey is about 3 years old. We weren't told much else about her when she was surrendered, but we've concluded that she's deaf. So she can be timid and fearful until she becomes familiar with her environment and the people and animals in it. If she isn't pressured, she eventually becomes more trusting. Our adoption process involves a foster period to make certain the family and the dog are a good "fit," and this will be critical for Zoey.

Zoey gets along with our other dogs, and she lived with cats before we acquired her, but she's also content to be alone.

We're looking for a patient adopter who can develop a close bond with Zoey, take special steps to communicate effectively with her, and keep her comfortable and safe for the rest of her life.

If you're interested in Zoey, please contact us and we''ll get back to you within a day. Since our adoption process involves a foster period (as indicated above) and home visits, we're looking for a family in the Bradenton/Sarasota (Florida) area.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Our application requests information about the adopter, other members of the household (including pets), and the home environment.

2.

Approve Application

Before an application is approved, we contact personal and vet references.

3.

Meet the Pet

If the application is approved, we schedule a "meet and greet." If that goes well, we move to the next step.

4.

Home Check

We take the desired animal to the home. Everyone in the family, including other pets, must be present.

5.

Take the Pet Home

If the home visit goes well, the family fosters the animal for several weeks. Adoption occurs if HPC and the family feel the "fit" is good.

Additional adoption info

Our application can be found at the bottom of the "Adopt" page on the HPC website. All animals are examined (with blood work and any other testing needed), altered, and vaccinated prior to adoption. The adoption fee is $100 for adult dogs, $50 for senior dogs, and $50-75 for cats. We are a volunteer-based sanctuary, so it may take a day or two to process your application.

Go meet their pets

Our dogs and cats are fostered in four locations in the Bradenton/Sarasota area of Florida: Myakka City, West Bradenton, Bradenton, and Zolfo Springs. We attend community-wide adoption events, and we also schedule our own events at local pet stores.
