Denver is a handsome and highly energetic puppy. He's always ready to play and loves to race around the yard, grabbing anything and everything he can get to and carrying his prize(s) off in his mouth. At 1 year old and 56 pounds, he isn't quite fully grown, but he's almost there. He'll soon be neutered by our vet, who doesn't believe in performing that surgery on very young puppies.
Denver can be a bit shy at first, but he warms up quickly. He spent the first six months of his life outdoors and is currently living in a "private" room at our West Bradenton facility. He's eager to move into a "real" home.
Denver originally had a different name, but his soulful eyes reminded us of John Denver (both the man and his music), so we think his new name is perfect. He'll be a loving and loyal companion.
If you're interested in Denver, please contact us and we'll get back to you within a day. Our adoption process involves a foster period ((to make sure the "fit" is good) and home visits, so we're looking for a family in Bradenton or Sarasota (Florida).

Our application requests information about the adopter, other members of the household (including pets), and the home environment.
2.
Approve Application
Before an application is approved, we contact personal and vet references.
3.
Meet the Pet
If the application is approved, we schedule a "meet and greet." If that goes well, we move to the next step.
4.
Home Check
We take the desired animal to the home. Everyone in the family, including other pets, must be present.
5.
Take the Pet Home
If the home visit goes well, the family fosters the animal for several weeks. Adoption occurs if HPC and the family feel the "fit" is good.
Additional adoption info
Our application can be found at the bottom of the "Adopt" page on the HPC website. All animals are examined (with blood work and any other testing needed), altered, and vaccinated prior to adoption. The adoption fee is $100 for adult dogs, $50 for senior dogs, and $50-75 for cats. We are a volunteer-based sanctuary, so it may take a day or two to process your application.
