My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gia
She likes to greet new friends w a wagging tail and her soft eyes - if you're lucky, maybe even a kiss or two. Though a little reserved at first this sweet girl just needs a bit of comfort to show you her true colors. Once she's warmed up, Gia's all about the affection-she'll try to hop on your lap and rub her face all over you, begging for more pets!
Playful and full of joy, Gia loves to run around and chase squeaky toys, though she'll happily drop them to keep the fun going with her human friends. If you're looking for a gentle, loving companion with a playful streak, Gia's your girl!

Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Gia at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering her

Behavior notes:
9/17/24 Per Volunteer: Gia is such a great dog. She was a bit shy coming out of her kennel, her ears perked up when passing other dogs in a curious manner, Once outside she sniffed around a lot, and then relaxed and had a BLAST playing with toys! she sits pretty much as soon as she sees you going for a treat, does not guard her toys, and enjoyed playing with the leash! She only played with the leash while she was running in the yard, she didn't bite or pull on it while walking. I think she thought it was a toy. She walked well going out and heading back in, the kennel & shelter does seem to be stressing her out a bit as she definitely seems more relaxed outside than inside the shelter. Easy to go in her kennel and out! Any family would be lucky to have her!

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement.
