Here's what the humans have to say about me:
“MATTEO” is a 5-year-old (April 20, 2019) quiet, creamy white, oversized male Toy Poodle and CKC (Continental Kennel Club) registered. He weighs a healthy 11 pounds and measures 11” from the floor to his withers.
Matteo (pronounced Ma Tay Oh), is ahhh…. something different.
As seen on our web site, he came to us from the same kennel as Tucker, Harlow and Lulu came from. Yet all of these Poodles are extremely loving, sociable and friendly. So we know it’s not his past environment. I have no idea why he is the way he is, but I can clearly see that he doesn’t know how to deal with people.
Matteo doesn’t bite, complain, growl or come near us. He is a soft, gentle and very easy-going Poodle with that sad and then scared look in his eyes. When YOU pick him up, he tends to be stiff like a board, but then briefly relaxes while enjoying being held, cuddled and loved.
He really wants to hang around with the Standard Poodles Harlow, Tucker and our Lola, as he considers himself one of them.
Now after months of working with him while all his required Vet work has been completed, he is available for adoption.
BUT…. Let me be perfectly honest with you; Matteo still needs more work, time and patience. If you go left, he will go right, you go up and he will go down. Sometimes when you call him, he will come, or will not come. He will not jump into your lap and not ask for any love or attention. When going outside, he will run out of our home like a scary monster is chasing him, when coming into our home he will run with that scary monster still chasing him.
So, are you interested and up for a challenge while working with Matteo for his love and attention? O.K. Then read on.
At this time, Matteo loves to have people near so he can see them. While he considers himself independent and self-centered, he will follow me around the house always watching me to see what I’m going to do. If I’m in the kitchen he will watch me from around the corner. When I go into the garage, he will stand at the top of our steps watching and waiting for me to return. If I’m in my home office, he will lay down next to my feet, but will not touch me.
He is just perfect with all our big and little Poodles, he loves his food and treats, is a good boy in our home (housetrained) and keeps his kennel clean when we are gone. He likes females who have the soft, sweet and gentle (positive) tone of voice.
We’ve started walking him with a snug fitted dog vest on a leash. It’s going well, so we will continue to work with him on that new adventure. We will also continue to work with Matteo as he learns how to deal with life and what appears to be his anxiety.
Yes. This is a very unusual opportunity for the right family. He’s not a Velcro Poodle, has no demands or expectations from anyone and is just fine hanging around any other large or small dog while watching you.
A SECURLY FENCED YARD WILL BE REQUIRED as he is not trained to relieve himself on a leash. And please, no aggressive or assertive dogs and no young children.
He has been neutered, is up to date on all his vaccinations, worming, dental work is done including the removal of various rotting teeth. He is just fine and can eat a hard kibble; no canned or soft food is required. Finally, Matteo has been heartworm / Lymes / Ehrlich / Anaplasmosis (4DX) tested negative, placed on a heartworm preventative, and Home Again microchipped.
His adoption fee is $400.00 which includes $27.00 for our 7.375% Minnesota state sales tax. This fee helps to pay for just some of his extensive vet work.
Also included is his leash, collar, fitted dog vest, a bag of quality dog food, a dog food container, treats, dog chew toys in a cute toy box, a new blanket, a dog bed, his wire crate along with lots of good information to help your Poodle adoption move forward on the right paw!
