My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 5 years old
Weight: 27.1kg / 59.7lb

A little bit about Zena :
- Very limited history with children; all interactions should be carefully supervised by an adult
- NO cats or small animals in the home due to very high prey drive
- Potential for another dog in home pending successful introduction

Meet Zena, a beautiful German Shepherd mix who's spent her life embracing the outdoors. Accustomed to the freedom of a rural setting, Zena thrives on outdoor adventures and would love a home where she can continue to explore, run, and play in nature. Since she's been an outdoor dog all her life, it's uncertain how well she'll adjust to indoor living, so she'll need a patient family to support her through the transition.

Zena is confident approaching new people but takes some time to be truly comfortable, so she's looking for experienced dog owners who understand her need for space. Positive reinforcement training will help Zena become her best self. If you're an experienced dog owner with a love for outdoor adventures, Zena could be the perfect companion!

More about this shelter

CONNECTING LIVES SINCE 1922

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.

Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.

Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.

Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.

Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.

Calgary Humane Society is committed to creating a better tomorrow through education and collaboration.
