My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A SWEET FRIEND IS WAITING FOR YOU:  Approx. 3 years old / Approx. 31 lbs.

Hi, my name’s Willa!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and am soaking up all the love and good care I am receiving from the volunteers at the shelter.  I have now gotten the good news that I am ready to find a family of my very own to love and be loved by, so come meet me!  I spent some time in the prison/foster training program offsite and learned a lot!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I recently met dogs at Mostly Mutts, and I preferred the male dogs over the female dogs.  I enjoyed my playdates with the male dogs, but I snarled and reacted to the females, so if you have a nice male doggie at home already, let’s meet!  / Cats unknown. / I recently met a boy and girl at Mostly Mutts around 10 years old, and I was sweet with them.  A home with kids age 10+ might be a good fit for me, let’s meet!  Kids shouldn’t walk me, though, since I can be reactive to other dogs on walks and have some fears of being outside and discomfort with loud cars and crowds.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m a friendly girl with a sweet, playful and gentle nature.  I’m a people dog, but I am most comfortable inside right now.  I must have a fenced yard in my new home.  Let’s start there and build up to some nice quiet nature walks.  Please be patient with me as I get exposed to new outdoor spaces.  I’m playful and loving – ready to bring joy to my new family! / My energy level is 6-8.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I am learning lots of great doggie commands with my trainer.  I expect to be a MMU Graduate very soon!  So far, I know the ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ ‘drop it’, and ‘leave it’.  I also utilize proper door etiquette and accept friendly strangers without jumping.  Please hold my leash tightly when walking, as some loud cars can startle me.  / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / My potty habits have been good on the prison/foster training program schedule, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home too!

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I’m a cuddly girl who loves laps.  I will roll right over for some belly rubs and ear scratches, my favorite!  I’m interested in toys, especially a tennis ball and Nylabone, so – let’s play!  I also ride well in the car, so let’s go on some adventures together!  A volunteer recently took me on a hike where they said I had a great time.  I patiently laid in the grass with the volunteer when it was time for a break – I’m just so happy to be near you and to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air!  / I can be reactive to other dogs and people I see from afar on walks.  At Mostly Mutts, I have shown some fear towards and barked at tall (6 foot+) male volunteers while I am in my crate, as well as a shorter man wearing a hat.  Once I am out of my crate, I have been fine and warm up to them.  My natural instinct is ‘flight’, so if I am unsure or scared of something new to me, I will try to get away from it.  I can’t do this when I’m in my crate, so I resort to barking.  I hope with more exposure that these things won’t be as frightening to me anymore.  Recently in my temporary foster home, I was unsure of some sirens going by from a nearby ambulance and that worried me a little.  Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.

I am looking for a wonderful furever home with a loving family for life!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
