My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For adoption information and more pictures and videos, see Yoshi's profile at austinsiameserescue.org.

Before you apply:  e-mail foster mama Melissa directly at atx.siamese.foster.mjs@gmail.com.  We'll set up a phone call to make sure it's a good match.

Yoshi is a sweet, low-key little gentleman who was returned to the rescue because his family moved out of the country.  They had no problems with him at all and were heartbroken at having to give him up.

He is a talky, talkety-talk talker!  Not loud, but lots - he has different words for everything. And So Affectionate!  He wants to be near you all the time.  He'll follow me upstairs to put away the laundry then follow me back downstairs when we're done.  He'll sit in your lap and watch TV with you or chill on his back on the floor with his dainty little feet in the air.  And when I pick him up for cuddles he'll cling to my shoulder like a little monkey.  Yoshi has the softest ears, and he's totally fine with you kissing them as long as you're fine with him kissing your ears, and your nose, and sometimes your eyes.  He'll actually offer you the top of his head for even more kisses and will give you a raspy, Siamese questioning "Mrahhhh" to ask "why did you stop?"

Yoshi is good with both men and women but afraid of other cats. I introduced him to the house matriarch, a mild-mannered senior girl half his size, and he cried and cowered and begged me to make her go away.  After a few weeks he summoned the courage to share space and a Churu with her and they took turns amicably.  He never managed to get in good with my other girl, but that's 90% her fault.  They're both too lazy for any direct conflict but she says discourteous things to him that he doesn't deserve to hear.

I have to brag on Yoshi's litterbox habits - so fastidious!  He only uses the middle of the box and artistically smooths the surface so neatly like a little zen garden.  He is very well groomed and always keeps himself perfectly clean...if ya know what I mean (wink).  Someday I hope to have a cat this polite - if you are his future Mama or Daddy I am jealous of you already.

Yoshi likes to lay on my chest while we watch his favorite bird videos (he fancies the cardinals and the chickadees but the doves are too big).  He refuses to apologize when his whiskers go up my nose, but when he lays on his back, distracts me with that soft fluffy tummy and looks up at me lovingly I would forgive him anything in the world.  He also gets high marks in the co-sleeping department. He likes your arms around him and he has a soothing rumble-purr.  Although I did have to dock him a few points due to the whole "I wake up and the cat is staring at me" thing and also the "cold wet nose on my forehead" issue.

Yoshi knows his name, comes when he's called, and looks at you intently when you talk to him.  He would prefer a peaceful home where at least one of his people is with him during the day.  He'll do well as an only cat but would probably be okay with an older laid-back kitty companion (preferably male) and a slow introduction.

Fair warning:  Yoshi is a very picky eater.  I've been through so, so many cans and kibbles to find something he likes. Of course he finally settled on the fancier stuff (Hills, RC), so his adopter should understand that this is what you need to commit to if you want him to eat.  Also, he does not travel well and will need to go to a home in or immediately near Austin. Also, also:  just because there's a picture of him in a sweater doesn't mean he likes it - that was a one-time thing we never did again.  Check that look of confusion and betrayal on his face! ( I shouldn't laugh.)

Foster Mama is requiring an in-person meeting before adoption.  Even if I am thoroughly charmed by a potential adopter, ultimately it is his choice.   Yoshi is being fostered in South Austin.

Additional adoption info

Interested adopters go through a careful screening process to include reference checks, telephone interviews, and where appropriate, home visits. No cat will be placed in a new home which allows cats to go outside. The adoptive owners agree to give Austin Siamese Rescue, Inc. the option of reclaiming the cat, should the adoption not work to the advantage of the new owner and the cat.

Adoption fees for Austin Siamese Rescue, Inc. range from $100 to $225 and include such vet work as combo test, vaccinations, worming and flea control, and microchip. We spay or neuter all of our cats prior to placement and most of our kittens, depending on their size and readiness.

More about this rescue

Austin Siamese Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization, formerly the Austin Branch of Texas Siamese Rescue. We focus on the 14 breeds of the Royal Thai Family, including Siamese, Balinese, Javanese, Oriental Shorthairs and Longhairs, Birmans, Burmese, Himalayans, Ocicats, Ragdolls, Snowshoes, and Tonkinese. All of the cats fostered in Austin are cared for in private homes by individuals who dedicate their spare time to this effort.

Our cats come from a variety of backgrounds. Some faced death at the shelter, while others came from abusive and neglectful households. Still others were treasured companions of guardians who could no longer care for them. What they all have in common is a need for a forever home, where they can live their lives as the happy, pampered cats they all deserve to be. We're looking for the perfect inside home for them!
