Hello there! My name is Mako, a charming 3-year-old tuxedo cat with a striking black and white coat that’s as classy as I am. I’m on the hunt for a special forever home where I can truly shine.

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’ve had a few stops along my journey. I've been in and out of the shelter twice, spending more time here than I ever have in a home. It’s my deepest wish to find a place where I can settle down and truly belong.

I might be a bit of a lone ranger—I'd thrive best as the only pet in your home. I’ve got a big personality and a lot of love to give, but I prefer to keep it all for one special human (or family) who can appreciate my unique charm.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees for dogs includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, de-wormer, flea and tick prevention, heart worm prevention, heart worm tested, and microchip registration.

Adult Dogs: $200
Puppies: $225

Cat adoption fees include spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, de-wormer, FIV/FeLV testing, flea and tick prevention, and microchip registration.

Adult Cats: $75 (or $125 for a pair)
Kittens: $90 (or $150 for a pair)

Since 1979, the Effingham County Humane Society has been committed to serving Effingham County, IL and the surrounding area. We are located in the former Funkhouser School, and our non-profit shelter is sustained by volunteers, fundraising, contributions, and adoption fees.

The goal of the Effingham County Humane Society is to reduce animal suffering in our county through educating and promoting responsible pet ownership, including spaying/neutering pets, appropriate pet identification, proper pet care, and the quality adoption of homeless pets.
