Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bodie XL says he does not think it is funny when people ask him if he is a dog. "Stop joking!!" he says " I am all CAT!"
He is, of course, 17 pounds of cat. "And I am not FAT either!" he says. He is right - he is all solid bone and muscle. He is just big. His back is long and broad, his snow-white feet are huge, and his plume of a tail is magnificent. When people see him they say "OMG Look at HIM!"
There is something about really big cats that is just fun, that makes you smile. No, toddlers must not be allowed to ride on his back though that's an appealing image. Of course, size isn't everything. Being a red tabby with white feet also adds to his charisma.
Even more delightful is this gentle giant's personality. What a sweetheart he is! He seems to love all humans. He was surrendered to a shelter by his owner's relatives due to illness. The shelter workers all fell in love with him. They called me to take him because he was so " reactive" to the other cats in the shelter. He really dislikes other cats and gets tense and anxious around them. He must have some memory of a fight or a serious problem with a kitty. He dislikes both males and females so I don't think this was a mating issue.
Anyway, this boy needs to be an only cat, no question about that. I have no idea how he would be with a dog. He's not a dominant cat and he has a vulnerable, sensitive side despite his big size. He was born to be a companion. Generally, the red boys, as I call them, are loving sweet kitties, real cuddlers. I always take them into foster when I can. And so many folks are looking for them.
Maine Coons have coats that are "seasonally variable" which means they shed in the summer so their coat looks less full then than it does during the cold months. This may be the case here- his tail hair is much more plush than that on his back. Or this may just be the way he is.
Bodie XL is an easy cat to care for. He eats anything. He loves to be brushed and fussed over. He is as healthy as can be. He uses his box ( an extra big one please). He would be a good companion to people strong enough to pick him up. Bodie would also be a good family cat with kids old enough to understand what respectful behavior is. His sensitive side makes me want to say he needs to be extra gently and kindly treated. Of course, all kitties (and humans ) need that.
Some person, couple, or family will be so lucky to have his solid, warm body and wonderful companionship.
Bodie XL is neutered, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats wet and dry food, and is litterbox perfect.
He is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz.
Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pet and create an ideal forever home.
If you believe you are the perfect adopter for Bodie XL please tell us why in the comments section of our Adoption Application, and contact Harriet at harrietluvskitties@yahoo.com If you are unable to reach Harriet please email us at info@purebredsplus.org.
NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone's best interests!
