My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the most adorable duo, Apple and Lucy!

These darling girls are both around 7-8 years old and the sweetest little ladies. They are the perfect petite companions and love nothing more than getting cuddles and making new friends. They are big fans of sunbathing and neighborhood walks and are the perfect working-from-home or retirement buddies. Apple (scruffy grey and white) weighs about 11lbs and Lucy (short-haired black and tan) weighs about 8lbs.

Apple and Lucy came to us from a local shelter after they were found as strays together. The girls didn't have any sort of identification and were never claimed by an owner. They seem like they have been well cared for by someone at some point in their lives. Lucy and Apple are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together.

Apple and Lucy are the epitome of lap dogs and could spend all day cuddled with someone if you let them. They probably would make great therapy dogs as they will walk up to anyone for attention and it's pretty hard not to smile when they look at you with their big brown eyes. Lucy is the more anxious of the two girls, but she gains a lot of confidence from her BFF, and the two love to cuddle and play together. They are the cutest two peas in a pod!

Apple and Lucy have done very well with the other dogs they have met and both have done well living with other dogs. They could be great additions to a family with other mellow dogs or they could do just fine as the two of them. They haven't met cats before, but we think they would likely do fine living with dog-savvy cats due to their easygoing personalities. Apple and Lucy have done well meeting respectful kids and could do well living with kids 10 years or older.

Apple and Lucy have both been doing well with their housetraining, but their new family should expect a few accidents while they are acclimating to a new environment and routine. They haven't spent too long at home without their foster family, but they seem like they could do well as long as they have each other. They are happy to sleep in a crate together at night but also would love to keep you company in bed if you allow them to.

Apple will need some dental work in the near future, so any potential families should be prepared for those costs. She also has a possible flea bite allergy, so it will be important to keep her up-to-date with her flea/tick preventatives. Lucy is a healthy girl and her teeth are in good condition for her age.

Apple and Lucy are such loving girls and they deserve a family just as great as them. If you think that might be you, submit an adoption application today!

Apple and Lucy's adoption fee is $500 for both.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals.  Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
