My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Marvilan! This sweet puppy was brought in as a stray on 9/13 and is still adjusting to life at the shelter. Though she's a bit scared in her kennel, once outside, she shows her true colors-a playful, silly puppy ready to explore and have fun. Could you be the one to give Marvilan the loving home she deserves?

Marvilan is currently eligible for rescue and adoption. Head to ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to meet her.

Behavioral:
Per volunteer 9/15: This poor girl is terrified in her kennel. She was alert barking in the TTA room. I opened the kennel door and she was eager to come over. She put her head down as I tried to put the leash over her head. Once she was leashed and she knew she was going outside she was ready to go. Once outside she was a totally different dog. She is a dopey puppy with all the puppy mannerisms. She gives kisses. Jumps up for attention. She would jump up on the bench and clumsily fall off. She wasn't real interested in treats. And she didn't play with toys. She met another dog and did well. She probably would do well in a home with another dog to show her how to be a dog and that people aren't so scary. I didn't have any issues going back into the shelter with her. I did step in the kennel to get her to go back in but no issues otherwise.

Per Staff on 9/14:
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Marvilan

KNOWN HISTORY:
"Stray - has been reactive (hard eyes, hard barking, growling) in kennel under our care

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Marvilan was curled up on her bed when I approached. She did not react this time, but I kept my body turned away from her and did not make direct eye contact. She sat up slowly and stretched her neck out to sniff me. I put my leash up to the door and she sniffed it curiously with semi soft eyes. I put my hand up to the bar for her to sniff and she gave a couple low wags, so I opened the door and reached in with the leash. She moved away timidly, but allowed me to leash her easily. Once secured she came out on her own.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally but fearful, walked with tail tucked and body low

HANDLING:
When we first got to the yard I gave Marvilan some space and time. I sat on the bench and let her approach me on her own. She came up to me quite quickly, after only a minute or two, and put her front paws in my lap. I took things very slow and gave her some gentle back pets, which she accepted and leaned into my lap. She got a little nervous and did some lip licking and whale eye so I got her off of me and offered her some treats. She wasn't interested in my treats, but did begin soliciting attention from me. She would lean against my leg and look up with soft eyes, trying to get closer and closer to me. With time and patience, she allowed all handling with no issues, and even started to gain some confidence! When I crouched down for her she would crawl into my lap and try to get all four paws in my lap. She got a playful burst of energy and ran around with me a bit. She was still timid and fearful of big movements, but when I got down and made myself small she would come up and engage in play with me. She got a little mouthy, but would stop when I turned away or said "ouch! loudly. She seems like a very scared and timid puppy that needs a lot of time and patience to come out of her shell.

PLAY
Engaged in play but was scared of me fully standing and running around at first. When I crouched down she would engage in some play, and after hanging out and playing for a while she would run around with me while I was standing.

TOYS:
No interest, more interested in the handler

Per staff 9/13:
Marvilan has been quite reactive in kennel today. I passed her multiple times and she hard barked and hard stared every time I passed. She would not calm down until I walked away, even when offered treats, crouching down and turning away, and using a baby voice. She appears fearful, but to air on the side of caution, putting on evaluate and putting up behavior/management only sign.

Per staff 9/13: Animal growled at different staff members. Animal however did not show any intent to attack or any aggression. Most likely scared.
