Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Link! This handsome man is still learning to trust the people around him and is looking for a patient family that help him learn that the world is not as scary as it may appear. This boy can be quite the independent gentleman but does love a good walk and will follow the staff around when they taken him to the fenced in area. With enough time and patience we are sure this boy will learn how to shine.
~ Link is looking for an active home that will be able to bring him on lots of adventures ~ Link can be nervous and shy with new people and will need his new family to go slow with him ~ This shy guy is looking for a home with adults only due to his nervousness ~ He is looking for a house type home rather than an apartment and new things and places are scary to him ~ Link would love to find himself a quiet home he can call his own ~ He will need to be signed up for training prior to adoption to help him build his confidence and learn his big boy manners
Explanation of Behaviours: ~ Link tolerates brief touch, when he is allowed to interact at his own pace, but quickly becomes uncomfortable with continued attention. He has displayed very nervous and fearful behaviours when meeting new people, in new situations and in new environments. His new family will need to work with him on slowly and properly desensitizing him to the world around him and build his confidence. ~ A very active dog that will need plenty of exercise, training, stimulation and enrichment daily to set him up for success. ~ Link has been very sensitive to loud/unexpected noises and displays fearful behaviour in these situations. ~ It was noted that Link's finder indicated that he had a high prey drive. ~ Link will attempt to remove himself (escape) through doors until he has the opportunity to fully adjust to his new home.
This dog would benefit from: - Active home - Adult home or family with older teenaged children with large dog experience - No apartments - No other dogs, cats, small animals (only pet home) - Lots of training and socialization - Lots of time and attention
Training needs/behaviours that need to be worked with for this dog: - Basic Training - Basic Manners - Work on reactivity (specifically noted towards other dogs) - Work on prey drive
**For more information on any behaviours stated above, please check out our behaviour fact sheet: https://kwsphumane.ca/BehavioursandDefinitions
**Please remember that animals are coming back from foster care to the centres for their meet and greets. They will be experiencing a new environment and meeting new people, which means they may not exhibit the same behaviours they did in their foster videos or while in foster care.

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
