My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Zelda! This pretty girl is still learning to trust the people around her and is looking for a patient family that help her learn that the world is not as scary as it may appear. This girl can be miss independent but does love a good walk and will follow the staff around when they taken her to the fenced in area. With enough time and patience we are sure this girl will learn how to shine.

~ Zelda is looking for an active home that will be able to bring her on lots of adventures
~ Zelda can be nervous and shy with new people and will need her new family to go slow with her
~ This shy girl is looking for a home with adults only due to her nervousness
~ She is looking for a house type home rather than an apartment and new things and places are scary to her
~ Sapphire would love to find herself a quiet home she can call her own
~ She will need to be signed up for training prior to adoption to help her build her confidence and learn her big girl manners

Explanation of Behaviours:
- Zelda tolerates brief touch, when she allowed to interact at her own pace, but quickly
becomes uncomfortable with continued attention. She has displayed very nervous and fearful
behaviours when meeting new people, in new situations and in new environments. Her new
family will need to work with her on slowly and properly desensitizing her to the world
around her and build her confidence.
- A very active dog that will need plenty of exercise, training, stimulation and enrichment
daily to set him up for success.
- Zelda has been very sensitive to loud/unexpected noises and displays fearful behaviour in
these situations.
- It was noted that Zelda's finder indicated that she had a high prey drive.
- Zelda will attempt to remove herself (escape) through doors until she has the opportunity to
fully adjust to her new home.

This dog would benefit from:
- Active home
- Adult home or family with older teenaged children with large dog experience
- No apartments
- No other dogs, cats, small animals (only pet home)
- Lots of training and socialization
- Lots of time and attention

Training needs/behaviours that need to be worked with for this dog:
- Basic Training
- Basic Manners
- Work on reactivity (specifically noted towards other dogs)
- Work on prey drive

**For more information on any behaviours stated above, please check out our behaviour fact
sheet: https://kwsphumane.ca/BehavioursandDefinitions

**Please remember that animals are coming back from foster care to the centres for their meet
and greets. They will be experiencing a new environment and meeting new people, which means
they may not exhibit the same behaviours they did in their foster videos or while in foster care.

Additional adoption info

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
