About Presley: "Presley loves to cuddle and be pet. She is fine with someone touching her ears/legs/tail. She likes chewing on tug-of-war rope and bones. She sleeps with a little stuffed animal in her kennel. She loves to wrestle with me and do zoomies around the living room. I bought puzzle toys that she’s currently learning to use. Presley likes to chase squirrels outside. At bed time she jumps in for cuddles and then leaves to sleep on her own and comes back for morning cuddles. She's tolerant of the vet and groomer. She's house trained, crate trained and fine being left home alone. Good with cats and other dogs her energy level. Presley will do well in a home out of the city that can provide her with good long walks."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:
INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)
ENERGY LEVEL:
MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)
Cuddle bug level:
Higher - Loves to cuddle with her people
Potty trained?
Yes - this pup is housetrained :)
Comfy with strangers?
Takes a moment to warm up to new people - more of a wallflower
Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)
Older Kids Are Best - aged 12 and up, little kids make her nervous
Social with Other Dogs?
Yes - good with dogs similar in energy to her
Respectful of other small animals? (cats, pocket pets, etc.)
Yes - good with cats :)
Mouthy Behavior:
Low - past this stage in her life: will sometimes steal a sock for fun
Leash manners:
Pretty Good - Good on the leash
Okay in the city?
Nope - looking for a home in the burbs the city stresses her out
Jumping to say hi?
Low - past this stage in her life
Separation anxiety?
Nope - fine being left home alone, zero issues with this
Crate trained?
Yes - loves her crate in fact
Medical status
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
