My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Calla (pronounced Ca-la) was found as a stray in Montreal in the summer of 2024 before being taken in by the Animal Rescue Network in July 2024. She was a stray and so was her family. Fortunately, she and her brother were both rescued from the streets! Calla is named after a flower in the lily family that can be black, just like her. She has beautiful thumbs that make her even cuter. She was very frightened when she arrived home and didn't want to eat in front of her human or play with her. Fortunately, Calla really enjoys the presence of other cats and as soon as she realized that she had feline friends waiting for her on the other side of the door, she made a lot of progress. The first contacts were made slowly, but 2 months after her capture, Calla is a little cat very well adapted to life in a house. She doesn't beg for cuddles, but loves to be approached and given them. She purrs loudly! She prefers to be courted by softly talking to us, until she drops onto her side to show us her belly and indicate that cuddle time has begun. She's a peculiar little cat with habits of her own! She loves cat trees to sleep in, but also to watch the birds and squirrels passing by on the balcony. She's very active, given her young age, so even if she doesn't let strangers pet her, she's happy to play with them. She'll need time to adapt to a new family, so her adoptive family will need to be patient with her. She'll let you pick her up when she knows you and trusts you, but never stays in your arms for very long. She's curious and greedy, so she'll come and sniff your plate if you leave it lying around! She's used to living in a very quiet, noise-free environment. So she'll be looking for an equally quiet home where there are no barking dogs, screaming children or loud music. She'll prefer someone gentle with her who already has one or more cats at home who want to run around with Calla to expend her energy. She won't be a good match for a family with children. Calla is a kitten therefore the adoption fees for her are $340. She is sterilized, vaccinated, microchipped and negative for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia (FeLV). You will also be provided with health insurances for the first 6 weeks following adoption. You will also have access to the support of the adoption team for as long as you need it. You will also have access to a free 30 minutes video consultation during the first month following the adoption with our cat behaviour consultant FelineGood ( https://www.felinegood.ca ).

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All new adoption homes are carefully screened to determine if they are suitable. There is an adoption fee that includes the sterilization, initial vaccination of every animal, testing for FIV and FeLV of all cats at the shelter, and a 21 days trial period. A contract is always signed between the ARN and the adopter for their protection. A follow-up by an ARN adoption coordinator is often done either by telephone or by visit, and we also offer help/cousel for the life of the cat.
