My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Abby! This 9-year-old Cocker Spaniel with a big personality and an even bigger heart, weighs 35 lbs. Abby is looking for a human that can give her some Grade A belly rubs, is that you?

  • General Behavior: Abby is a wonderful pooch with a bright and happy demeanor. She loves her person very much, and enjoys their company. She can initially be wary of strangers, but scratch her ears, and rub her belly, and she’s all yours!

  • Likes & Dislikes: Adorable Abby enjoys spending her days on the job with her foster dad. She wakes up every morning, eager to get the day started and head on in to her 9-5. She loves her neighborhood strolls, then coming back inside for a short game of tug of war.

  • Training: This sweet gal has wonderful house manners and does well with her housetraining when kept to her schedule. She is still working on her social skills and may initially bark upon meeting new people and dogs. She has some tricks up her sleeve, knowing commands like sit, lie down, turn around, and high five!

  • Medical: Abby has Hypothyroidism and allergies, but her thyroid condition is controlled and managed with twice-daily medication. The cost of this medication is approximately $5 a month. She visits her vet every 8 weeks or so for an injection to help with her allergies, this costs approximately $125. Aside from this, she takes her monthly heartworm and flea preventative like any other pooch.

  • Other Animals: Abby’s ideal home would be one without any other animals. She prefers to have her human all to herself and having other dogs around causes her stress.

  • Children: Abby is a playful gal and interacts well with children, although she can easily knock over young kiddos. A home with older kids (8+) would be okay.

  • Home: A single-family home or dog-friendly apartment living would be a perfect fit for Abby! As long as she has a nice selection of toys, affection from her family, and a comfy blanket to snuggle up in, she is content.

  • Grooming: As a Cocker Spaniel, Abby requires a trip to the grooming spa every 8-10 weeks. Her future family can expect to pay approximately $85+ to get her beautified.

  • Overall: Abby is such a fun and precious gal with so much love to give to her trusted human! She is sure to make a wonderful companion.

Are you the one for Abby? Visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with her foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, spayed, and heartworm negative. The adoption donation for Abby has been reduced thanks to a generous grant from Kia and the Petfinder Foundation, and is $250.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
