My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Few cats have had as dramatic a life as Mango. He lost his first home when his owner passed away, and 3 more homes led him to need us again. His last home was his best one—5 years with his beloved human who sadly passed away recently. We have and will always welcome Mango back, and he knows instinctively we have his back. Our vets took immediate care of him when he arrived under distress. He now has an excellent plan in place for his heart and kidney conditions, all covered through our Pet Health Centers at cost. Mango has a quiet space all to himself, just the way he likes it; he prefers the company of humans to other fur creatures. One thing has remained a constant throughout Mango’s life: his desire to be a steadfast resident of his beloved humans’ laps. No cat gives better hugs than Mango. We want him to get a chance at his golden years being in one home for the rest of his life, and we can say with full confidence that will be one very lucky human being!

When you come down to NSALA an associate will help you figure out what kind of animal will do best in your situation. At that point they will take out the animals you are interested in so that you may get to know them. You will have plenty of time to play and interact with your new friend in our family friendly areas designated for that purpose. When you decide you want to adopt, an associate will help you fill out an application.

Our adoption fees are as follows:
Puppies (up to 6 months) $350
Adult Dogs (over 6 months) $100
Puppy Mill Rescues $250
Small Breed & Pure Breeds (over 6 months) $250
Kittens (up to 6 months) $100
Double Kittens $150
Adult Cats (over 6 months) $50
Double Adult Cats $75

Where applicable, a $50 Spay/Neuter deposit is required for kittens, $75 for puppies.

Our Adoption Center, is open every Thursday-Sunday 12pm-8pm. On average, our shelter is home to 350 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Behind the scenes, the Adoption Center contains a nursery area, medical examination room and a grooming area where new admissions are health checked, vaccinated, bathed and groomed.

Visitors are reminded that adoption is a lifelong commitment. After selecting a pet, each potential adopter is thoroughly screened, ensuring each adopter recognizes the life-changing commitment a new pet can be. To date, over 1,000,000 pet owners have met our high standards and adopted a pet from North Shore Animal League America.
