My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Smokie was brought in by his previous owner on September 11, 2024

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Smokie, a sweet and sensitive soul looking for a calm and quiet home where he can truly feel at ease. While he may feel nervous around new faces and places at first, Smokie does warm up with time and patience. He prefers to keep his world small, enjoying peaceful walks around the block or playtime in the yard over crowded parks or events. Due to his timid nature, Smokie needs to go to a home without children under the age of 12. He is not a fan of being left alone, so a family familiar with this behavior and how to management it would be ideal. Smokie has shown positive social behaviors with other dogs here at the shelter and may do well with other canines in the home. He is potty trained (though a refresher wouldn't hurt!), and knows how to "sit." Smokie also loves playing in water and walks well on a leash. If you're ready to give Smokie the gentle environment he needs, come ask about adopting him today - we'll even send you home with his leash and collar to set you up for success!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
