My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Patches Update: seeking a very special forever home!

As Patches heals, our girl is searching for a permanent home where she can finally feel safe. Patches was rescued with a deep tissue injury to her leg after pushing out an air conditioner to jump from the second story of her home. She needed immediate medical attention and an emergency placement due to severe separation anxiety and thunderstorm phobia.

We welcomed Patches to RBARI, where we could provide her with the thorough care and training she needed in a secure environment. She is still painful on her leg, but has begun bearing weight on it as she heals with pain management and rest. Due to her anxiety, it has taken her time to warm up to staff, but she is improving with daily rehabilitation. She's a bit of a stubborn little princess who will just flop down in the middle of the road when she decides she doesn't want to go in the same direction as you (she did this before the injury, it's not pain but just her personality).

Patches requires a home where she will have consistent companionship and a committed caretaker who will help her overcome her anxiety with behavior modification and medication (our vet has started her on some anxiety medication) She is a 7-year-old border collie / husky (maybe aussie?) mix, weighing 60 pounds.

Please share to find Patches' perfect match and submit an application if you think you can help her. You can help us continue to reach into our local community to help those animals most in need with your shares today. With your support, Patches will find the healing and comfort she needs to settle peacefully into the right home!

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
