Their Foster Parent Says:"Denver is a huuuuge snuggle bug. His favorite thing is to cuddle on top of you. He loves everybody he meets. Denver sleeps through the night and loves to sleep in. In the morning, he likes a quick walk, breakfast and a nap. Once he’s up he loves attention and play time. Anything to keep him occupied (long chews, puzzles, kong, orbees). He’ll need one good active time during the day such as a long walk or run in between his naps. Denver loves enrichment activities and playing with his toys. He’s mostly crate trained and sleeps in there at night or when he wants to nap. Denver can be hyper around food or walk time, he jumps and tippy taps with excitement. He also is the most excited and wiggliest boy when you come home. He has a support blanket that he carries around the apartment. He suckles his blankie whenever he has big feelings of excitement. Continued training on bouncing and leash manners would be best for him (he will go for “street treats” on walks). He likes other dogs but comes off strong. He could live with one that will teach him patience and socialization. Denver knows his basic commands ‘sit’ ‘stay/wait’ ’eyes’ ’paw’ ‘other paw’ ‘speak’ and ‘touch’. He loves all people he meets and loves giving kisses. He’s great with kids but his size and bounciness are something to be aware of. He loves his groomer. He loves smelling the flowers as they bloom. He loves life. He is so full of love and gives 110% to his people. "
Energy LevelMedium — Not bouncing off the walls but needs long walks and playtime, likes to be active. He can be overly excited for walks and food. Will need play time throughout the day or demand your attention. He is half couch potato, half tigger. Needs one good long walk a day (40-60 mins) and the rest ~20 mins. 4 walks a day.
Cuddle Bug Level
High — Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time. Loves to be touching humans.

Yes — Few or no accidents
Comfy with strangers?
Yep — Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.
Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)
Yes for 12 and up — may be a little energetic, best with older children that can be extra gentle or that are big enough not to get accidentally knocked down. He is so gentle with small kids! He is just hyper around food and walk time so may knock one down with his strength by accident.
Good with Other Dogs?
Mostly — Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs). We have worked really hard on his leash manners and socializing and he is doing SO much better. He still comes off strong going right into another dog's face initially but has learned to sniff butts right after and give kisses. Especially loves puppies.
Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)
Sort of — Seems to chase squirrels and birds and comes on a little strong so probably not a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc. Not a fan of bodega cats and chases squirrels. Birds he can't be bothered.
Mouthy Behavior?
Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff — only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones. You could take his food or toys from him. He will find anything edible in the home though even if it's in a bag/package.
Leash Manners?
Getting the Hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in its life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. He can pull towards things he wants to sniff or another dog. Needs some correction.
Okay In The City?
Yes — Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. Loves going into shops.
Jumping on People to Say Hi?
Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. Gets super excited for walks and food. Occasionally will jump to greet someone but not much. Just needs correction.
Separation Anxiety?
Medium – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone. He will cry at the door then take a nap.
Crate training? Working on it – We set one up and leave the door open but rarely close it because the dog freaks out when we do. He sleeps in his crate kingdom at night. We leave the door open during the day for naps/comfort. He did not like the door closed.
Medical status
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one).
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
