My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

AQUARIUS was an owner surrender to the rescue and was the result of two adult dogs being put together when neither were fixed. She’s had her first 2 sets of puppy vaccines including rabies, microchipped and been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. Her spay us booked for the end of the month and will be performed before she leaves the rescue. Her mum is a mix of Great Dane/Mastiff/Lab and dad was a Rottie so judging from those breeds we can almost guarantee she’s gong to be an XL adult. She’s a shy, sweet girl who’s very gentle and loving and would suit an active but quiet home.
AQUARIUS is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it at night and will also nap in it during the day. She’s almost housetrained and does know to do her business outside but the odd time forgets to ask so it’s still a work in progress. She’s fostered with other dogs but is still a bit shy around them and she likes dogs to be calm around her so wouldn’t suit being with a high energy dog. She loves to play with all sorts of toys especially chewy ones and bones.
AQUARIUS is being fostered with our puppy trainer so she’s now off to a good start with puppy training. This training will need to be continued by her adopter as it’s essential she build on the foundation that she already has. Due to her start in life she is scared of the world. Her trainer has been focused on confidence building and appropriate socialization. She’s doing very well and will continue to make great strides with an owner who will continue spending time working with her. She likes to work during training and learn new things but does get overwhelmed. She needs socialization at a distance and a gentle, encouraging parenting style. She’s very food motivated and likes to work and learn new things in a safe environment.

AQUARIUS’ leash walking is a work in progress as she’s very nervous but that’s being worked on daily. A fenced yard is required for her as she loves to run around and play outside. She hasn’t been cat tested but if the cat is dog savvy a slow, monitored introduction would be required. She’s a bit bitey in her play and even at cuddle time so we are recommending children be aged 10 plus.
Puppies are cute and fun but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need her adopter to 100% be in agreement to continue with her training.

If you’re interested in meeting AQUARIUS then please submit an adoption application.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
