My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Foster Notes:

Bruno is a very very affectionate young pup, but can be very easily spooked and is always looking for a little reassurance. He is not really sure what dog toys are but his foster sister is slowly teaching him the ways of tug-o-war. His leash skills are a little rough at the start due to excitement but after a few minutes he is happy to stroll right by your side. Bruno lives with one big female dog (70lbs) and two cats. He is very respectful of our other dog and curious about the cats. He has never tried to attack them but he has pulled a little to try and get a good sniff. He knows touch, sit, wait, and free. He is house-trained and has a medium energy level. Bruno is happy to go for a long walk or just hang out by your side.

Bruno is a very very good family dog. He feels guilty when he get into trouble (getting into the cat food or stealing a sock). He is also very responsive to positive verbal cues and treats. This means that he has a lot of potential for many types of lifestyles as long as someone is willing to be patient with him!

Bruno goes on two long walks, one in the morning and one in the evening. He will usually pee several times and poop during both of these walks. He is taken out maybe 2-3 times throughout the day. He has gone for as long as 6 hours without being taken out but it is usually around every 3-4 hours.

Bruno (is):
- Enjoys meeting new people
- Is cuddly and affectionate
- Treat Motivated
- Toy Motivated
- Good with dogs
- Good with Cats
- House trained

Things to know:

If you already know you want to proceed with adopting a specific pet, please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov and let us know you want to go ahead and adopt. You can still meet the pet before finalizing the adoption to make sure they are a great fit for you.

Pets are adopted on a first-come-first-served basis and may be adopted very quickly. You can see the current status of available pets on our website. Pets that are listed as "Available" are currently available for adoption. Those with a status of "Adoption Pending" or "Unavailable" already have been spoken for and are no longer available for adoption. The status of these pets will be updated back to "Available" if their original placement falls through. Our website automatically updates every hour and displays all pets at BAS Pet Adoption & Resource Center or foster.

Visitation and adoption of pets in foster must be scheduled directly with the foster volunteer since these pets are not at the Animal Services Center. Email fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov to schedule a visit or adoption of a pet in foster care.

Stop by and visit pets at the Burlington Animal Services Pet Adoption and Resource Center six days a week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Pets receive vaccines, testing, and preventatives appropriate for their species and age, as well as any necessary treatments. Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered. BAS adopters also receive exclusive discounts on food, veterinary care, training, and more through our partners. All this is included in the adoption!

Adoption fees are very low and are sometimes waived as part of regular adoption special events through out the year. To see our current adoption fees and specials, visit burlingtonnc.gov/visitBAS. Our goal is to ensure every pet has a positive outcome and gets to live life with a loving family.

To take home a pet, adopters or fosters only need to present a government-issued photo ID and be at least 18 years old. There is NO lengthy paperwork to fill out and NO intrusive or lengthy process. Most pets can go home the same day, and we provide resources and ongoing support to help you and the pet make a smooth transition!
