My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The very first thing that Wiley wants to make clear is that he's a lover!

Wiley was born in Texas with a litter with a rescue, and adopted out as a puppy. Unfortunately, Wiley's owners were evicted and no longer able to keep him. He was given away by his family to another home in Texas, who would leave him out in their yard, and since Wiley is such a social guy (and because they only had a 4 foot fence...) Wiley would hop over their fence and meet them at the front door asking to come inside and hang out. Because he "can't live in the yard", he was (thankfully) brought to a shelter. This is when Farfel's was reached out to, to find this sweet guy a forever home in Colorado.

Wiley is a 2 year old Cattle Dog / Border Collie mix. He is just 39 lbs.

Wiley's foster had the following to say about this special guy:

* * * *

"Are you ready to meet the goofiest and most loving boy around? Seriously this guy loves people and loves other dogs, and cannot wait to be your best friend!

He’s active and playful. Wiley will do best in an active home who enjoys hiking or walking, and/or one with another doggy sibling for him to play with.
He loves to play play play with his foster siblings but does leave my older dogs alone when they tell him. He likes toys especially tennis balls but he definitely prefers playing with other dogs.

He walks very well on leash. We are working on ignoring other dogs and people but he’s learning fast! He’s not mean or rude, he just really wants to say hi.

He’s cat friendly! He does need a few days to get used to new cats but once they’re old news he coexists happily. We have 2 cats and 4 large dogs and he does amazing here.

He is also potty trained!

He naps and sleeps happily in his crate when I’m not home. He has not been destructive in his crate at all. I feed in crates here and he runs right in for meal time!

He loves pets and snuggles and lays at my feet when he’s not busy playing. He’s for sure a shadow dog and wants nothing more than to be near you all day.

He absolutely loves to go for adventures and sniff around. We’re working on his recall skills so he can be off leash (well, I use a super super super long leash instead of off leash) but he’s picking it up fast and is such a fun hiking companion already."

* * * *

We envision Wiley with a younger couple or individual who work from a home-based office. Active retirees would be a great match too, as long as Wiley can get the energy out that he needs.
We feel that Wiley is too sensitive a guy to be left alone for the long hours of full-time employment outside of the home.

This really smart guy will be a natural in positive reinforcement / force free group obedience classes. Wiley will love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please that we have no doubt that he'll excel. Farfel's feels so strongly that positive training classes are imperative for the long-term relationship between humans and dogs that we're unwilling to adopt Wiley to a family that doesn't choose a training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force free trainers in your area.

Wiley has been vetted and vaccinated to support Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to stay true to our commitment to end euthanasia in the overpopulated canine community.

Wiley is available for adoption now! Applications are currently being accepted for our gorgeous pup. If interested in this very cuddly, super-smart and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Wiley please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
