My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** If you are interested in adopting Howie, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **

Howie is a gorgeous young guy! Howie is believed to be a Papillon / Cocker Spaniel mix. He is 2 years old and just 15 lbs.

Howie was relinquished by his owners Houston TX, when they had to move and couldn't bring him with.
We're so grateful for the efforts of our great Texas rescuers in saving Howie. They could see that he's a gorgeous guy (both inside and out) with a temperament so sweet and kind that they couldn't allow him to be in a compromised situation.
Farfel's Rescue was contacted with hopes that we could find a forever home for Howie that is filled with love and respect in dog-crazy Colorado. We were thrilled to hear from our Texas rescue partners and were very excited to welcome cutie-pie Howie into Farfel's Rescue.

From Howie’s foster:

“He is doing so great!! He’s spoiled and he’s a very friendly and loveable guy. He does well with my dog and is the most beautiful boy with his long hair!”

We think Howie will do really well with an active and dog-crazy couple or individual that works from a home-based office. He will be thrilled with the companionship and consistency that this type of family provides. Howie is too social to be left alone while his family works full-time outside of the home.

With any rescue, moving from a shelter to a foster to an adoptive home can be very confusing. When an adopting family is sensitive to the challenges of change and acclimation for these dog's, the transition is far easier. A home with a very loving and nurturing family that understands that blossoming takes time would be perfect home for this sweet boy.
Socialization, pure love and belly rubs is a gift to a dog that is undergoing a life change. Given the time and space, these dogs shine.

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement/force-free training.
We therefore aren't willing to adopt out to a home that doesn't choose to offer this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free virtual and in-person trainers in your area.

Howie is up to date on his vetting/vaccinations and neutered to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application.
Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
